SHould I just bend my irons 1/2 degree upright?

I have Mizuno standard irons (MX25) and got a fitting after buying them (I know, I know). I found out I take clubls that are half a degree upright and

.25 " longer than normal. Also, I should use mid size grips.

Should I ditch my irons on Ebay and get another set that matches my fit or just work with what I have? Can the Mizuno's be easily bent 1/2 degree upright? Can I somehow add .25 an inch under the new grips? I know I can have the standard grips changed out for midsize easy enough.

Thanks

I don't think you would even notice a difference if you only bent them 1/2* upright. Also, 1/4'' isn't big enough for you to really gain anything from either. The midsize grips are an easy fix. Keep your current set and don't waste the money... I highly doubt you would notice a difference.

Unless you're a testing robot, I doubt you would notice the difference in such a small change - although there may be a psychological effect. Use the money you'd save on some lessons.

The reason it's 1/2 a degree is because I did a Ping fitting and they are 1 degree flatter than Mizuno. I measured in for a yellow dot, which is 1.50 degrees upright, so that translates to just .5 degrees for Mizuno. Also, I was

+1/2 inch for length and Ping is -.25" in length for standard, so that makes just +.25" in length.

Just wondering if I should just sell my current irons and rebuy them in the proper measurements, instead of having them bent and lengthened? Or should I just stick with "standard", since these are just minor, small adjustments? Thanks

The is no "standard" lie, length or loft between manufacturers. What may be Pings black code "standard" could well be 1* different to Mizuno or anyone else. To quote Mizuno from their website: " All golf manufacturers work to different standard specifications. Your spec only applies to the brand of equipment for which you were fitted. There is no such thing as '2 degrees upright' - only 2 degrees upright for a specific brand". Of course, different brands will also have different fitting methods. Comparing two different brands "static"- i.e. not fitted- specs is useless.

I just checked the specs for Mizuno and Ping and what I heard elsewhere is wrong. They are both IDENTICAL in length and Ping is .5 flatter for a standard 6 iron, but it varies depending on the iron. For a 4 iron, the lies are identical, but for a 9 iron, PING is 1.3 flatter.

I guess the main thing is that I need clubs 1/2 longer than stock and apoprox.

1 degree upright, but it sounds like standard isn't way off enough to hurt me.

It's much easier to get cheaper clubs on Ebay if you can play standard, also.

The other thing too is there are tolerances on all clubs but I'm not sure what Mizuno's are. You may already have an upright lie that fits your game because the lie may be slightly different than what's advertised. Could also be the opposite too. The best thing for your conscious is to take your clubs to a fitter and see if they fit you per spec.

But the best thing to do for your wallet is play a couple rounds with them and see if you are mishitting at all. If you aren't, which I'm pretty sure will be the case, then you can save your money.

Plus buying off ebay what could be advertised as upright and overlength could be wrong so if you are going to make the change just take it to a fitter. When you get the grips changed they can add an extension to the butt if you feel you need that extra .25"

One other thing to remember is that it's not about the numbers it's how you hit the ball. My specs call for a slightly undersized grip but I play much better with a slightly oversized. So if you're hitting consistent and fine with your current clubs then no need to change anything. The key is consistent.

Comparing lie angles between manufacturers is hit 'n miss at best.

You'd think there would be a "standard", but it varies for some reason.

Do a dynamic lie angle fitting ( hit balls off a lie board with tape on sole ) --- that's the answer.

1/2* of lie and 1/4inch of length making a difference? You are grasping at straws. Manufacturer specs are not the same so ones whatever is not necessarliy equal to anothers whatever.

They also have tolerances. Typically plus or minus 1 degree of loft and plus or minus 1/2* of loft. Plus or minus 1 means you could have a swing of 2. Plus or minus 1/2 mens you could have a swing of one.

Go forth. Enjoy your new clubs even if you bought them backwards (buy then get fit), thus your self doubts.

I think the biggest question has yet to be asked. How do you hit the Mizuno's? Are you confident with them in your hand? If you are confident with them in your hand; you are hitting them well, and you aren't having any other problems with them, who cares what the clubfitter says?

Unless you are hitting a slight fade or push, and desparately want to fix it. I wouldn't bother.

Agree with the other posters - a 1/2 degree on lie shouldn't affect ball flight much. I recently had my irons bent to correct for a small leak to the right I was having...but I had to bend my irons 2.5 degrees upright. If 2.5 degrees helped to pull my shots only 5-8 yards towards center, I doubt that a 1/2 degree change would have much of an effect.
