Rombax 8z08 vs 757 speeder

I am looking for a low spin, low launch driver shaft because I have always hit a big balloning driver. Trackman had has me consistantly angle of attack +5deg, with a 8.5 degree driver (Alpha v5 LX, and TM r7 460 heads). I choosen too soft (poorly) for my first few choices of driver shafts an E370 -S, tipped to 277cpm and a Grafalloy blue -x @281 no tipping. Both 44.25" in length. Also, a VS proto 80s- tipped to 265cpm. I can really just nuke the ball up in the air w/ too high launch and spin for all these above.

My swing: 108-111mph, med-fast temp, swinger (not much wrist power)

2900rpm

launch angle 15degees

Its > 40' in height.

I am thinking my 5 deg a of a, plus 8.5 deg loft is already 13.5deg. Any forward flex of the shaft at impact makes actual loft (dynamic) even higher, like up to 16 deg- which is why I hit too high of a launch shot, plus another 500rpm too much spin really makes the ball go high, like twice as high as the range net (visually). So in order to get a launch near 12 deg, I need to find a shaft that has like zero forward deflection at impact! ? I'd go for the 8Z08, in an X, and add more weight screws to head in order to help load the shaft if need be, but I fear this might be to stiff according to Fuji flex numbers, whatever they mean?, so maybe I should get an S?...I could always tip it,Or, go with the venerable 757 speeder, in a 460cc head? I prefer to feel the shaft kick at impact only, other then this I prefer a stiff, tight, clean feeling on takeaway, top and until wirst uncocks.

My optimum shot I want goes no higher then 30' and carrys about 270, landing about 36deg angle to the ground. I like the feeling of low torque for accuracy and consistancy. I did hit the whiteboard 83X, and my spin numbers were really low and didn't produce a real great shot, and I felt I would need to play with somemore to optimize what I could do with it.

Any suggestions would be appricated?

Well, you could ditch the R7 460 because that is a high launch high spin head, idk about the Alpha. At your SS a 757 X would be borderline, you could go with an S and tip it. My SS is around 115 and I hit a WB 83-S tipped to X (I believe around 260 CPM at 45"). I have an upward angle of attack as well and this seems to be a good match for me, I launch an 8.5 907D2 at around 13 or so with typically less than 2500 rpm. To be honest i think 8Z08 is going to drop your spin too low, you don't spin it too much as it is, and that is a very low torque/spin shaft I believe. Or you could just tee it lower?

I have the 8zo8 in a s flex and it plays and freq at a x flex so i would recommend going with the s because especially in rombax because of the triax weave they play stiffer. Compared the rombax will give you more control then the speeder even tho its the same triax tech. in the rombax its a full shaft triax weave were the speeder only has it in the tip section. Just my opinion ive tryed both and went with the 8z08

I'm glad to see you guys mention all the shafts I had in real contention here. All of the following I think will do a pretty good job for me. Rombax Z 8z08 S flex, WB 83-S tipped some, 757-X, 7z08 -x.

Does anyone think they know which shaft will work the best to get a resulting 12deg launch considering the head: 110 mph SS, 5deg a of a, ball prov1x, in a TM R7 460 TP 8.5 (not a quad, only 2 wt ports, below head cg) with short hosel depth with an overall lenght of 44.25"

Is this head Ok. I tend to judge heads by 1) distance of cg from face 2) being able to add weigths, 3) toe and heal misses MOI forgivness 4) looks. Maybe I should forget 2) & 3) since ballmarks are usually in the center (except when really counts probably) using 44.25" length and get another r510tp to reduce the distance in 1) that might help lower the launch.

I left steel seveal years ago thinking a lighter shaft was better for more swing speed, and due to lauch monitor technology I find out it is... and its about 5 yards extra... and for the potential of a few yrds it introduces the you to getting real quick left tendancies, being too fast... and you'll probably at some point start putting it way up in the air... way up there cause you hit up on the ball. And then somebody said you really need a high launch, low spin driver shaft. Ha.ha as a mechanical engineer, I should know better, oh well.

Have you factored in the high BBGM on the TM drivers when you install the shaft? Typically a TM driver requires the shaft be tipped an extra 1/2" to play true to flex.

Are you buying the shaft new? If so, email or PM Joe Kwok. He does top-notch fitting and wont charge extra if you purchase and have him install the shaft. He will get you squared away.

I don't know what BBGM means, can't quite work it out... but you see my concern about the short hosel in the TM head, as a possible factor for more shaft flex, so I will take it into account too. Thanks for the recommedation.

I don't really like steel shafts b/c they are too heavy for the job, and I can definitly hit it farther with an 86g graphite. I was just musing over how important it is to find the right flex profile the shaft you want to swing and steel not too fun to swing.

I did notice that the Fujikura numbers for the 757-X 79g, were: 70 Butt, and 100 Tip.

Compared to the 7Z08-x at 75g: 73 Butt, and 103 Tip, so this shaft is a littler lighter and more flexible then the 757-x speeder? But the z has Rombax, triax along the entire shaft, which I understand makes it stiffer.

I used to have an E370-S, 3.2 torque, that I tipped about 1.5" which and it was till a 'noodle'- started out as a 77 Butt and 100 Tip.... so the lower torque with Rombax/triax weave must make the difference in stiffness in the lower torque shafts, according to feedback from people who have tried the 7z08-x compared to the 757-x speeder.?
