Do the caddies get paid at the Ryder Cup?

you know, when I first read this, I thought "what a stupid thread".

you know what?

I was wrong, it's a great question. Who does pay the caddy? I think it's the player, since the caddie gets a percent of their winnings (excpet in some cases, where the caddy gets a salary plus a percent, Steve Williams).

and BJG, would you go do your job for free for 2 weeks in the middle of Kentucky if you weren't getting paid? I didn't think so.

Not specifically to the Ryder Cup, but if I recall a conversation I had with a tour pro several years ago each situation varies. There is no standard arrangement between player and caddie. Some have a salary plus a percentage, some just a hefty salary with the player throwing a bonus thier way if it has been a particularly good year. In some cases, expenses are paid by the player and in others they are paid by the caddie. I don't think many work strictly on a percentage but that is another arrangement that is possible.

Many of the top tier caddies are on salary, expenses, receive royalties for equipment contracts (wearing logo clothing, etc.) and a percentage of winnings. Most, if not all of the caddies for these top players are paid accordingly, so technically they are paid if they are on annual salary.

I would venture to say that the 24 caddies participating this week are making $250K plus a year. The players have all expenses paid by the Ryder Cup as do their caddies, but receive no additional money just for the Cup matches.

Put it this way, if you are a caddie for a top tier player, are you going to tell him no? I would think you'd be thrilled to be a part of it, just as your player should be. The exception being the caddie for one of the US players (can't remember which one) who is from England, so Tony Navarro is stepping in for him.

I don't believe he's suggesting he would "do his job for free" for two weeks- sounds like he's suggesting that yes, given the chance he would do anything to be on a Ryder Cup bag. One of the most amazing events in all of sport and he would be more than happy to be a part of it pay or no pay. I would venture a guess that an overwhelmingly large percentage of people here would do the same, myself incuded.

By the way, what does this job being located in the middle of Kentucky have to do with anything? I live downtown Chicago so I'm not showing any bias here but what's your point? Sorry, just a bit confused by that statement...

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
