I hope to make this interesting
Note I do not consider myself a true club Ho but I am a bit of a collector. But lots of what I collect is old and rusted does not have original grips or shafts . I guess they are not worth much to anyone but me. Anyway I am going to start out posting some of those. I will eventually get around to posting my gamers .

Now if you see any clubs you know some history on please comment.

Now if I can just figure out how to post the pics wish me luck.

This first putter is a Tommy Armour Iron Master with and A not sure how old it is. The guy I got it from loaded the shaft with wax to make it feel more solid. I rolled it pretty good for a while early eightys. If anyone knows anything please post it .

this next one is a goose neck model I am not sure was not a store line

Here is one for the TPM fans it has a six on the face I putted on and off with it for about ten years.

This is my Wilson 8802 I got it used around 1976 someone had already drilled it changed the grip and stipped the chrome off it. I had a loop in my stroke like Greg Norman when I putted with it .

Does anyone remember how he used to line it up on the toe and hit it in the middle with his 8802 type putter.

If I set it up on the toe I hit it in the middle I just could not line it up. I was a good lag putter with this putter and made more 15 20 footers than any putter I have owned. But I sucked from inside five feet. But I loved the putter.

Now this next putter obviously I never putted with its a lefty and my Dad did for a while, I ended up with it. In the eightys I read in a book it was a collectors item and a right hand model was worth about eighty bucks I always wondered what a left hand model would be worth.

Its a MacGregor Mallet with Perry Como's name on it. I imagine it was built when Tony Penna was still with MacGregor he and Perry were good friends and neighbors down in Jupiter Fla.

The others are just some putters I had laying around the house I will post my gamer putters which are in the trunk when I post my other Gamers .

Here are two more I found

One of these Jack made famous

Mention of Greg Norman and his old putter takes me back Ken. I remember vividly seeing the great man win at Turnberry as a youngster with that method and that old 8813 blade with the careworn shaft in it.

I bet your dad had a few 'magic moments' with that mallet... ;)

Couldn't resist it.

The rest of these wedges will be one thread

I have two dynampower Wilson Sand Wedges and Harmonized Dynapower black dot with a Music note along with and old Wilson Goose Neck

I never played much with any of these I began aquiring them when I went to the Amana Pro Am in Iowa in the eightys and saw that both Julious Boros and Sam Snead carried these I have never seen better bunker players.

this will start the iron section

I have owned three sets of irons since 1975

these were my vardon cups made by PGA (later Tommy Armour Golf)

these were custom ground for me the toe was squared the ribbon rolled notice the silver furrows.

the loft and lie was standard and the shaft were Dynamic stiffs tipped a half inch . I had and have the one iron thru PW I apologize once more I am a horrible photographer.

In 1981 my Vardons had become maleable from to many trips in a loft and lie machine

The lofts would change in the course of a round.

I had a minor staff deal with Ram but I ordered these staff irons to my specs and a set of First Flights to my specs

The staffs got there first and stayed in the bag for 14 years This set I had one iron thru Sw

In 95 at 46 years of age I just could not hit those butter knives as well as I had

I wanted some help but it still had to look classic I got these DCI's with Sensicores but three of them broke at the Sensicore so I put Rifle 5.5's in them. I had the 0ne iron thru PW but never used the one iron much and I traded it with some cash for a driver..

Here is a driver and three wood Byron Nelson by MacGregor that were from a beginners set I had the irons they were traded to me

Cheap shafts but the prettiest persimmon I ever saw Ken reshafted and refinished and gamed them for a while

ByronNelson.jpg

Prettypersimmon.jpg

In the early eightys I found this next club in a juniors bag with the whipping off of it the neck split

I offered him and his father any driver I had in one of my rental bags for it and we traded .

I fixed it refinished it reshafted it and hit it a few time always tended to hook it.

I wish I knew how old it really is.

Its a Jimmy Demaret by MacGregor

Ken, your thread is bringing back some of my favorite memories:

1) Oil hardened MacGregor Woods

2) Square toed blades (we shared the same tastes in grinds)

3) That old PGA wedge, what an AWESOME club that was! Vokey did a one of a kind remake for a friend of mine...

Please take more close ups of the heads. Taking them outside would really help the picture quality. It's very old school stuff, but this is my favorite WITB thread in a very long time!

Thanks my friend,

Kevin

speaking of square toe irons, i have a MINT set of these square toe'd babies:

Always liked the look of Power builts I think I had a driver for a while never owned a set of irons but I have hit them and I liked them

Do you know what year or about what year those were made and if not does anyone

I would love to find some experts to tell me what year some of my wedges and putters were made.\

Smashing WITB Ken!

Got a few of us chatting away in the Gowf shack today i can tell you!

So much so that we are now hunting for an old set of Tony P's my gaffer used and Im gonna try and scour up an elusive set of beautiful old Swilken Baffys i used to game in my tender youth!

We were also tossing around the idea that in our 30's, we are probably now the last generation to have cut the dash on the fairways with "Real" woods in the old sack de magi!

Do you know?! We can't honestly remember the last time either of us re-whipped a "weapon"???

Sad times my friends....

very sad.

I doubt if a young gentleman or lady of the current generation could even slap one of those beautys down a fairway, let alone manage to curb their guffaws at the size of the old "beasts" heads compared with todays offerings?

Would indeed be an interesting experiment!

Keep up the good work fella!

Grins thankyou I am still disturbed at what happened to my Taylor made bubbles LOL I also had one of those Fire whatevers Taylor made made that I have not located.

Its funny I wish I had them all right back to the Sears Roebucks irons five dollars a piece I got the 3579 and Dual Wedge and later the four six and eight I bought a two iron by MacGregor from a kid for 2.00 that was my first top line club

My first good but not top line woods were Sam Snead Blue Ridge by Wilson I had the 1 2 3 4

with reminder grips. I later heard that Sam got a buck a club.

My first top line irons Arnold Palmer Tru Matics 2-9 r shafts my first top line woods Arnold Palmer tru matics 1 3 4 I could not hit the fairway woods a lick they were stiffs and I got them at different times than I did the irons

I had a cool spalding Sand wedge I had a couple Macgregor drivers I had a Ben Hogan driver and three wood and a set of MacGregor Irons

As a scotsman you will appreciate that my gamer putter for years was a cashin style putter made by John Letters

I wish I had them to show you guys pics .

My dream now is to restore some of what I have I would love to rechome and refinish my old wedges and my irons but it will cost about 75 bucks a club as would the putters

I ain't broke (even if I am cheap ) but I just cant make myself spend it. Maybe one day.

Thanks for liking my little Museum.

Good stuff Ken, it's good to see you actually used your clubs unlike a lot of people who have WITB's on this site whose clubs look like they just took the plastic off of them. Nothing like a rusty sweetspot, lead tape and a few nicks and scratches that only you know how they got there to give you some confidence over a shot. Personally I Have had my irons for almost 10 years, my Vokey 2 1/2 years, my putter 5 years, hybrids 2 years and my driver 1 1/2 years. My 3 wood is a new purchase but my 5 wood I just picked out of a used club barrel for $30 and it may be my favorite club now.

Love that old 8802, the Wilson irons and those persimmon woods. Do you ever take them out to hit them just for old times sake?

This is and Otey Christman semi Mallet I had one in 1970 I shot 63 with twice then broke it over my knee one day I have not putted a lick since.

I have had several duplicate copys now it just gets dust but its still brings a nice memory.

I used to play with a guy who gamed one of these, havn't seen him in about 10 years but knowing him it's still in his bag.
