Eating lunch next to Jack Nicklaus

Over the Summer of 07 I was on Nantucket ( i actually lived there for 7 years) and low and behold as i was eating lunch I see Captain Jack over to the right of me. It took me about 5 min to muster up enough courage to go bother him. I went over to say hi, I said something like " my dad would kill me if i didn't say hi to you" shook his hand, then from his table I hear someone call out my name. It turned out he was with a very wealthy family that i had done paint work for a few times. It made me calm down quite a bit. Their from Ohio, so I learned later that day on the internet so was Jack. Makes sense. Anyway, figured I share that story. He was very pleasent by the way. And looked good for his age.

Nice to meet a living legend.

I shared a shuttle bus from the airport to the car rental lot with Dottie Pepper a couple of years ago, before she retired. Not quite as thrilling as meeting Jack!

My in-laws are members of The Bears Club in FL. We were there awhile back for dinner. As we entered the concierge approached my father-in-law and told him that "Jack will be at dinner tonight- all members must wear their membership jacket."

About 20 minutes later, Nicklaus comes strolling in with some people for dinner and sits down at the next table.

He said hello and was very cordial, but you could tell they didn't want to be bothered during dinner (which of course, we respected).

Kinda cool to "rub shoulders" with The Great One. The food at his club is excellent, by the way.

My heart was beating like crazy for like a good five minutes after meeting him. I was with four other friends, and only one of them knew who he was. They did not see what the big deal was.

I guess it just depends how you feel, I dont think I'd be nervous talking to Jack. Hes just another guy, except he used to be the best golfer on the planet. I never really understood grown adults obsession over celebrities...now if he was a cool guy that you could sit back and have a drink with- I'm sure hes got some great stories.

thats cool. i was recently at a cancer fundraiser and was able to speak with Arnaold Palmer and his wife for several minutes. very nice people.

I saw Shell's Wonderful World of Golf on TV this summer, Jack Nicklaus vs. Ben Crenshaw. This episode was filmed just 7 years ago and I was in awe of Jack's game. He holed out from the bunker on the first hole and went on to hole out from two more bunkers during 18 holes. I watched some old tournaments of his growing up and knew he used to be the best, but man, he still has serious, serious game!

I have been around Jack a few times having worked at his company in the late 90's. He really is just a regular guy one on one. But when speaking with him I could never get it out of my head who I was dealing with, he is the legend that will always be. His entire family is similar to him, just great people overall. I remember when Gary was leaving the club one day (we were in Naples at the time and he was heading back to Palm Beach via car, Jack always flys over) he stopped just outside of the front gate to change an elderly womans flat tire. WOW!!!1

I had the opportunity to meet Jack quite a few years ago while Gary was playing on PGA Tour. He walked in the gallery with everyone else and was very pleasant to the people who came up to him and asked for his autograph. I finally mustered up the courage and asked him to sign my hat and he did. I got that hat in a trophy case and it is one of my prized possesions.
