Launch Monitors
Hey all,

So i'm at the Golf Galaxy last night and for giggles, I noticed a used set of Titleist 690.mb's. I pick up the 7 iron and head to the sim. I obtained my normal distances for my ususal 7 iron of about 170-175 yards. I hit 15 shots all dead straight. Very satisfied with the Titleist line to the point I may be selling my LT2's.

Now to the point........A couple of shots I hit seemed totally unrealistic in terms of distance. I hit 3, 7 iron shots just over 195 yards.........!!!!????????

If Golf Galaxy juices up those launch monitors that is really screwing the average joe who thinks he is bombing shots with that new $400 460 cc driver.....yet again that;s their business. They are there to sell clubs.

Selling clubs is one thing, but I don't think deceiving customers is the right way to do it.

anyone have any input on the launch monitors at Golf Galaxy and their reliability?

If you were on the simulator then I wouldn't trust what you saw. If you were on the launch monitor then I would trust it. I've had the same experience as you. The simulator was off but the launch monitor was dead on. Simp

Went to Golf Galaxy for first time on Sat.

Hit about 10 drives. First three I hit were solid and went all of 210 yards. I looked at the guy and kind of scoffed. He said "oh, that ball is designed not to travel as far". Handed me another (same look, said "PRACTICE" on it) and next 7 averaged 270. Go figure.

That was the first time I ever spent in a sim. Not a big fan of them. Only true sim is on the course or the range.

At some of the GG's, they are using the FlightScope in the simulators. That will give a somewhat accurate ballpark (Like that adjective???).

They arent as bad as the old simulators. I will give you an example:

Hit my 905T (cant wait for the R man!!!!) with a V2 stiff 75 grm.

specs from simulator (with flightscope)

Launch 13.8, SS 98mph, Ball Speed 142, spin 3800 distance was 235

Hit on Launch Monitor:

V Launch 14.1 SS 100, BS 146, Spin 3542, Dist: carry 258, roll 26

Does that help????

Dumb question on the sim vs. launch monitor.

I hit into a screen with a projected fairway and I got ball speed, launch angle, and distance with carry and roll.

Would that be the launch monitor?

That would be the simulator. The launch monitor is hitting into a net with the camera beside the ball. It'll take two pictures of the ball as you hit it. The results will be displayed on a computer screen. The simulators are fun for warming up, but if you're serious about the club you're hitting then you'll need to jump over to the launch monitor to get a true reading. Simp

judging by everyone's response here, it seems they are somewhat accurate. So does that mean I really poked that 7 iron 195? Is that even possible?

According to the LM, the 7 iron carried 190 with 115 mph ball speed.

Anyone who plays blades can you relate? I'm guessing maybe because there was no offset, and maybe I delofted the club? Don't remember what the launch angle was.

Well, FWIW, here are my numbers from my Ping Blade 7 iron on the launch monitor with a ProV1x: ball speed-118.7 / Clubhead speed-91.8 / Launch angle-20.9 / Carry distance-166.1.

This was an average swing that I would make while playing. Nothing harder than usual.

So, I'd say that it definitely is possible for you to hit a 7 iron 190 but the numbers that you were given don't add up to a 190 yard swing, but anything is possible! Simp

nothing is as real as the real deal.........or even the range might do it..........but in the midwest at this time of the year...........launch monitor and sims are next to nothing............once the snow melts and i can see the green.........range and course are better.......

holla!

Yeah! It sucks living in the midwest though... first it's warm, then it snows, now it's warmer again. JUST PICK A SEASON AND STICK WITH IT!!!
