I'm not a big fan of Super Game Improvement irons.

Here's my top 5:

1. TaylorMade OS2 irons 3-PW retail $499

I play these. I used to play the G5's, but found them too bulky. These have medium to high launch and they are extremely forgiving. You don't need to swing out of your shoes to get the ball out there. The OS are very consistant in flight very tight, as a matter of fact, even on mishits it wasn't a bad shot...not much spraying in other words. These are the ultimate GAME IMPROVEMENT IRONS.

2. Cobra 3100 irons 3-PW retail $450

http://www.tgw.com/images/products/clubs/m.../5454/image.jpg

I was spraying shots with these irons. The ball had a mid launch angle, which allowed for more distance. Aesthetics of this club are lacking, but I'll take performance over looks any day. Give this one a serious look.

3. Callaway X-18 3-PW retail $699

Out of the Cobra and TaylorMade I was the longest with this one (182 yds with a 6 iron). Beware of the uniflex shaft, in my opinion, if you buy any Callaway products take the shaft out for a Nippon or Dynamic Gold. I was all over the board with this one. Golf Digest ranks this club the best game improvement club for this year.

4. Mizuno MX-17 3-PW retail $499

Kind of a mix between Callaway in distance, with a high ball flight of TaylorMade. They are phasing these out, but I honestly think these are the best game improvement irons Mizzie ever made.

5. Cleveland LP irons 4-PW retail $399.00 (great value)

They just came out with these. They remind me of the TA6 with Launcher insignia. These might be the steal. I have not tried them, so I can't give any feed back. The beauty about this one is you don't have pay an arm and a leg for a great iron.

One month ago I went to order a set of Nike OSS. The clubfitter recommended I demo a few different clubs before I ordered the Nike. I demoed the Nike slingshot OSS, Callaway Big Bertha 04, Callaway X18, and the Ping G5.

It came down to the Big Bertha 04 and the Ping G5. I ended up hitting the G5's better. Morale of the story: try before you buy. I usually shoot in the 90's with my best being an 86 (back nine a 39). Hope that helps.

Having owned the BB04s and the G5s and now the Slingshot OSSs, I can tell you that you have to decide what is most important to you. The Berthas are fine clubs and very forgiving. The G5s are very forgiving, but probably slightly less. However, they have the best feel of any cast club that I have hit and have excellent wedges. The SS OSSs take forgiveness to a new level. The others can’t compete for forgiveness. Hitting the 4 and 5 irons in these are effortless. The heads clearly have a higher MOI. Nike has worked with the soles and tiered them. Even though they are wide, they play well from tight lies. I was able to chip with the sand wedge off of hardpan. If you want graphite shafts, the Nike Diamana shafts are much more robust than the Ping or Callaway graphite. The OSSs are also about a half club longer than the other two.

I like all of the above irons, but for me, Nike has just taken super game improvement irons to another level

i personally don't like the looks of the bb04 or even the newest ones........

ss oss are bulky and they are huge.......

ever consider the mizzy mx23s........forged but very forgiving...............awesome feel.........give that set a whack and see what you think...........

rac os2s are perfect.......i have these and i like them..........just my .02.

I have tried them both and would say that they are both great irons. My advice would be to try them out yourself and see which one you prefer but either would make a great choice.
