igolf neo users- help please

I think I might pull the trigger on this unit, but I have a question that I'm unsure of. Is the unit accurate for distances when, lets say you hit the ball way left or right onto another fairway? Does the f/c/b yardage adjust to the angle you're at? Don't know if I'm making sense, or I'm just unsure of what the gps technology is all about. Thanks for any help

It would appear from iGolf's mappings that the Front mark is if you were to approach the green from the center of the fairway, but move backwards. Same for the back reading.

So if you're off over to the right, the front will always be that marked position that I mentioned. The center will always be the center no matter where you are.

 

The ability to automatically adjust the 'front' or 'back' is not available on the Neo. I believe those units from Skycaddie and other makers with their 'intelligreen' feature will adjust the front for you because they have the outline of the green that can rotate, etc.

 

Lemme ask you this. Is your game good enough to warrant that exact distance to a new 'front' reading. Mine's not.

I might add just a bit to the prior post-GPS distance is always an "as the crow flies" reading. So if you are off the centerline of the fairway the distance to the F/C/B pre-mapped points will adjust-the F/C/B points will not. The GPS units with the perimeter of the green mapped can do this (SkyCaddie, and a couple others)-but I'm with the previous post-unless you've great distance control (or the green is particularly monstrous-in which case you should probably re-map it yourself anyway) I don't see the real benefit in it.

I have had my NEO for 6 months and love it.

 

As others have said, distance to F,C,B is based on the way IGOLF maps the course. If you approach from the sides, then only the center distance is accurate.

 

One nice feature is you can remap the F.C.B of any green quickly to reflect how you approach the green on a regular basis (if play a course over and over). I have a few holes that based on approach I always come in at an angle. I marked the F,C,B from that angle.

 

I have also added a couple of custom points for FL (front left) or BR (back Right) in addition to the F,C,B on the neo. That way, I have a reasonable idea of distances from either side if I hit a wayward shot on those greens (ones where hitting to the center is not the preferred shot).

 

Overall, I am not good enough for this to be a problem. The intelligreen feature would be nice, but I do not really need it.

This could be a real problem with long narrow greens.
