Had a good talk with my contact at Taylormade. They are really excited about the new golf balls. You guys who loved the 2017 TP5X are going to be very happy. From what they have seen so far, it’s longer than left dash but will spin more off the irons and around the greens. The new TP5 will keep the soft feel but is almost 2mph faster off the driver. Hopefully I’ll have some prototype balls soon and can try them.

When are they gonna be released?  A left dash competitor that's cheaper and more readily available would be awesome.  I like the current gen TP5x but feel like they spin a bit much.

He said January. One thing I did forget was that he said both balls will “feel” softer due to a new core material, but actual compression wise they won’t be. Hopefully I will have some TP5 protos next week to test.

Love hearing this. I enjoyed the 2017 and 2019 tp5x.  Great off driver, spun enough for most of the public courses I play around the greens.  Hated it off the putter.  It’s almost like is was putting a really hard, smaller diameter ball.  I know it wasn’t smaller, but for some reason it looked and felt like it.

I think you and many more will be very pleased with the new TP5X. Basically it’s going to be longer and softer feeling.

This is good news if true.  The 2021 TP5x ruined what was a unique and great ball for high spin players.

I still scour the internet for 2019 TP5x as I haven’t found anything as good.

I don’t have any issues spinning them around the greens.

I lose around 8 yards on my irons with other balls.  Hopefully the 2023 isn’t too much higher spin with the irons.

Second all of this - Left Dash has been a recent favourite but that 2019 TP5x was something else for me. Excited by the suggestions for 2024 release...

This is the most exciting ball launch for 24

is there anyone else major with a change - Callaway I guess?

I "think" TM was the only recent outlier among the big guys in going so long between updates instead of a 2 year schedule.  If Callaway stays on their 2 year schedule, chrome soft line should be updated in 2024.

Any mention of better cover durability on the new models?

I didn’t ask, but hopefully have some coming in the mail to try. I’ll post a review after I test them.

Can't wait for this ball to be released. I loved the 2019 TP5x. It was the perfect golf ball for my game. Then the 2021 version was just a total dud for me. WAY too much spin. Once I realized it wasn't going to work I accumulated a stash of 2019 balls so I would have some for a while. I'm finally running down to my last couple dozen.

I'm hopeful the new ball will hit all the same notes the 2019 version did and knock the spin way down from the latest iteration.

Finally got a chance to test the 2024 TP5 Proto. Course was pretty spread out so I was able to play two balls. My normal gamer Tour BX and the ‘24 TP5 Proto. Here’s my review:

1 They definitely made the ball firmer and it’s much better off the tee than the previous model. Easily 5-10 yds longer of the driver. It was basically going just as far as my Tour BX.

2 The Proto definitely has a lower flight than the previous ball, and spins less off the longer clubs. I don’t have launch monitor numbers to back that up, but to the eyes it definitely seems less “floaty”

3 Off the irons, there is a firmer feel than the old ball, but not clicky or hard. If I had to compare, it’s firmer then Tour B XS and but softer than Tour BX. It’s about the same 5 or so yards longer off the irons.

4 Spin wise, it’s still a higher spinning ball, but don’t think it’s as much as the old model. plenty of stopping power, just not crazy spin.

5 Had about a 1 club wind today, so was able to see it into, down, and crosswind. Besides the distance improvement of the driver, this is the biggest improvement. Much more controllable.

6 Greenside it’s just as good as the older ball. Plenty of control and spin. Nice soft feel.

7 Durability is much improved. I didn’t hit it in any bunkers, but had plenty of short irons and wedges and not a scuff on the ball. (See pics)

It’s an improvement over the previous ball no doubt. If I had to say what ball it reminds me of, it would be Pro V1, which obviously is a good thing. I was impressed, not sure it would kick my Tour BX out of the rotation since it just does everything I want in a ball with my preferred higher trajectory, but it’s a very good ball.

I can’t answer about the X, but the standard version is definitely lower spinning off full shots than the previous model.
