Played my first full round with the TP5X today.  I was going to play both balls but the course was packed and I was playing with the best group of golfers I know, one an Asian Tour player and another a former Mini Tour player and pro caddie.

on the course this thing just flat out performed for me.  I played the left dash at the end of last year because I didn’t like the 21 TP5X and couldn’t  reliably get the 2019 anymore.  The 24 TP5X played just as well, if not better for me on the course.  The biggest difference was around the green and on the putting green.  Softer feel and spin was excellent.  Ball speeds were great, and I kept up with my partners and even past them a couple times.  Durability was great as well.  I had the Asian tour player (who plays Prov1’s) play a new one on the last hole, and he asked to keep it for testing as he was very impressed.  Attached is the only mark after playing the whole round with the same ball (and only getting beat by 1! 😜)  thank you @TaylorMade Golf

Will echo the durability. 9 holes with each ball hitting a bunch of wedges off mats and you’d never know it. Barely a scratch.

also, Go Blue!

@KC4441 how would you compare it to the 2019 tp5x and left dash?

I haven’t gotten long game testing done yet, but 100 yards and in its very similar to 2019 model. Touch more spin, a little softer, and not quite as clicky sounding but overall very similar.

I think it compares very similarly to the Left Dash with my limited experience with the LD. One BIG difference is the durability. LD was AWFUL for me durability wise but the new TP5x barely had a scratch after playing 9 holes. Truly night and day difference from a durability standpoint. Spin/feel/sound, however, are very close.

That’s the thing. He doesn’t have the speed for this ball. It’s not made for people like him. Balls are extremely personalized and just because it doesn’t work for him doesn’t mean it’s not a top tier ball

The robotic tests in recent years have shown that the strong correlation between ball speed and compression is fairly linear across all swing speeds with ball speed efficiency actually diminishing as swing speed increases (basically higher compression balls tend to produce higher long game ball speeds for all swing speeds).

Ultimately, there isn’t a ball in existence that a 104 mph driver swing speed is not enough for.

2019 TP5x is the goat in my book.  Vice Pro Plus(my gamer) is the closest thing, IMO.  More durable left dash.........sign me up.

I’ll do some direct comparisons tomorrow and post #’s here, but as MichiganMan said, feels similar, but I’d say even a touch softer feel, especially on and around the green.

Did some head to head driver testing with left dash and TP5X.  I forgot to get a pic but in this session, TP5X was 1.1 mph ball speed higher than left dash on average (168.1 to 167) and left dash was 150-175 less spin (2450 to 2600) resulting in almost identical carry and total distance with the Driver.

IMG_1889.jpeg.ac03707e9a6af5988177e92dd5e2844d.jpegJust some quick initial testing with my 6 iron.  I hit 5-6 shots with each and kept the best 3 of each.  Interesting start.

I did a few Driver swings and it seems the 24TP5X is as advertised with some bigger ball speeds and maintaining that lower spin characteristics.  I’ll get a better session and post later.

Is green the last gen tp5? So. Getting similar spin with your irons with the new tp5x. But faster ball speeds.

Launch looks really comparable too. Ok. I’m liking what I’m seeing here so far.

I wanted to get in and test them out this weekend. But I have my kids this weekend. Just haven’t been able to carve out the time.

But I’m really really interested in seeing how these compare with irons. If I can get a similar spin window between the two, I can really focus on greenside and driver to find the one.

This will be interesting to see other reviews and if that is consistent. I know the new callaways all got the extra gear vs old models. Would love tp5x to continually show that too.

Was able to test the 2024 TP5x vs the 2021 TP5x in the simulator recently and came away impressed. I was about 1.5-2 mph faster with the new ball on Driver swings consistently and had good feel to it. I was worried on feel initially because I think with the putter the 2024 ball is ever so slightly firmer than the 2021 ball, but felt none of that on full swing shots. Comparing 6 irons I was also a touch faster while with full swing wedges I was getting similar spin numbers.

Since I can only test inside right now, but hearing others say how impressed they are with the short game spin and feel I think this ball will be a big winner. I was someone who liked the 2021 ball a lot but seeing it be faster through almost all of the bag while not sacrificing spin, I can't wait to test on the course this spring.

Love how everyone is a critic

Obviously, the answer is to continue to play the left dash and just fix your swing so you no longer besmirch its good name by relaying your experience with it.

I will hopefully be getting some numbers tonight to share.  I don't have any 21 TP5X.  Will be comparing the old TP5, the last gen BX, Z Star XV, and the CSX LS.  Indoor mind you.  Mainly looking at irons and driver.  But, I can get a few wedge shots in.  What wedge were you wondering about?

Hey that would be great. Either full lob wedge or sand wedge would be great.

ok. Here you go. I was absolutely spent at the end. Hit a few 56° with the 21 tp5 and the two 24’s. Very similar performance between the 3 with full wedge swings.

Ok.  So, I will try to dump this in here.  I went to a sim that uses GC Hawk.  I wanted to get a feel for each ball with long, mid, and short irons.  I wanted to compare them to some of my go to balls from the past year or two.  I wanted to get 5 quality strikes to compare numbers.  Disclaimer, I deleted shots that were poor contact as I wanted to compare the ball characteristics as best I can.  Also, as time went on and my elbow and back started to fatigue, my delivery seemed to change.  Must have started coming in more shallow.  During my warm up with my 7i, my spin was in the 6500-7000 range with the new TP5.  By the time I got to the 7i testing, my spin had decreased significantly, where with my 5i, it was more in line with what I would typically expect.  But, 7i and down, it's still apples to apples.  Should be able to see how the numbers differ between each ball.  Obviously, your mileage may vary.

I wanted to get 5 quality shots with 5i, 7i, 9i.  After going through the 5i, I decided that trying to compare 6 balls was going to take a lot longer than the time I had booked.  I ended up hitting balls for 2 hours.  My back hurts, my elbow hurts, I am not as young and spry as I was thought I was haha.  I was going to get some driver numbers between them also.  But, by the time I got the shots with the SW that I posted above, my back was toast.  Driver was not going to happen.

On the ball flight view of these results, the average is gray.  The last shot is the darker colored set of numbers.  Couldn't figure out how to change that.

So, I maybe did this backwards, but wanted to make sure I was hitting the harder club while I was still fresh.  So, the order will be 5i w/21 TP5, 24 TP5, 24 TP5X, BX.  Then with 7i, then with 9i.  Will start with the grouping, then follow it up with the individual shots used.

21 TP5 5i:

This is one of my favorite balls.  It's soft feeling.  Gives me great spin with my irons.  And plays well around the green for me.  There are probably faster/longer options.  But, I feel like this has been the best of both worlds for me.

image.jpeg.3d973d055cdb264cb32efaacae83f7a9.jpeg

image.jpeg.94a451141ce98947fe5b5729c1d465ab.jpeg

24 TP5 5i:

This definitely reminds me of the last TP5 in terms of feel.  Performance was really really similar.  Indoors off of a mat, I would be hard pressed to point out any significant differences between the two.  But, the last one was pretty damn good.  So, unless they completely reinvent it, I don't expect a drastic change.

image.jpeg.cdb6a2c79f3dd3c3ac5a5dcbb2fb18f2.jpeg

image.jpeg.5691db8064037053c1e0b44d5fb879b4.jpeg

24 TP5X 5i:

The 24 TP5X is definitely a crisper feeling ball.  Not hard.  Just more crisp.  Almost like the cover is soft and responsive, but the layer underneath it is firm.  Feels fast and solid.  I am a big fan of it.  A little lower spinning than the TP5's.  A little faster too.  It's not as much separation as I was expecting.  And honestly, that's a good thing.  The fact that it is so close for spin means that I wouldn't be giving up a lot if I wanted to go with this.

image.jpeg.e6d190fc4e759df21383d969d8a3dfcc.jpeg

image.jpeg.e70f40a697a9efd0cdf379447a1ee8d4.jpeg

BX 5i:

I do like this ball.  And I am including it just so I have a different OEM option.  I have cycled between this and the TP5 a bit.  The BX when I want something a little faster off the tee.  In the controlled environment of the indoor simulator yesterday, the BX felt pretty similar to the TP5X.  Maybe a touch softer.  It does seem to spin more in line with the TP5.

image.jpeg.8f9ab9e30dab05d22c7af61f7261ad1f.jpeg

image.jpeg.fb11c66a9233fdcbd55207df029cd450.jpeg

Thoughts on 5i shots:

So, a lot of the launch/flight numbers are extremely similar between these 4 balls.  The launch, peak height, and decent angle are pretty much right in line with one another.  Not a surprise that the TP5X is faster and a little longer than the 21 TP5 and the 24 TP5.  I was surprised to see it keep up and surpass the BX.  The BX is probably the longest ball I play semi regularly.  So, that's really promising.  I think I preferred the feel of the TP5X over the BX by a small margin.  It would all come down to spin.  And, I think I would need to see that outdoors.  Not on a LM.  But on the course, side my side.

Will create new posts for the other clubs.
