I think TM would do well creating more models to appeal to more golfers.  Titleist does this better than any with the AVX, Pro V1, Pro V1X, and Pro -V1X, with the V1 and V1X appealing to the biggest sections of the normal curve.  My impression of TM is that even their two models don't fit the majority well.  I'm wondering how their sponsored guys put up with it.  I'll be glad to see it if they do step up their ball game.

I agree with this. Even Callaway offers an extra option in their Chrome Soft lineup. I'd love a model closer to the 2019 version that's a little lower spin. But the newer models have been wayy too spinny for me and I'm testing new balls to try and find something I like because I'm not convinced the new ball will be much better.

Despite what TM promotes I don't think all the Tour guys are playing the most recent offering. If I remember correctly, Rory went back to the 2019 version at some point in the last year or so because he wanted less spin that the new model was offering.

If they could split the difference of the   -V1x and V1x or 19x and 21x that would be a winner in my books.

I played the 2019 but wished for just a bit spin from 100 and in.  The 2021 had some more spin but the durability of a balata so I didn’t give them much of a chance.  They did check up much more around the green though.

I still have a box of the '21 TP5x and they do get chewed up pretty easily.  Spins a bit too much for me as well.  '19 TP5x were perfect.  Closest modern day ball is the Vice Pro Plus, IMO.

I played the TP5X Proto yesterday. It was cold out, but distance was comparable to chrome soft XLS, maybe longer. Feel Was great, felt nice and soft. Only thing I noticed, and certainly could have been me since it was only one round, but it went ridiculously high off the driver on some shots.  played same ball all round and no scuffs.

Sounds like it's high launch/low spin then like the left dash.  That would be just fine with me.  Are you a high launch/spin player?  What's your driver setup?

I’m definitely going to hold off stocking up on left dash prov1x this off season now.  This sounds like the Taylormade ball I’ve always wanted

I got some of the new Proto TP5 balls sent to me from TM.  I've played standard TP5 for the past 3 or 4 seasons and have loved it.   Today I decided to just do some carpet putting with the new balls and old balls to see if there was any noticeable difference.   First strike off the putter with the new ball almost made me puke.  It sounded extremely muted and soft with no other feedback.   Just horrible.   Hit an old one and it's night and day difference.   Honestly the new TP5 felt like a Callaway SuperSoft off the putter face... and I hate that.  Looks like I will need to find a new ball going forward.   Still have 6 dozen of the current model that should last me a while but time to start searching.

Cut one of the new balls in half and one of the current balls and it looks like they actually reversed the order of the layers.   They are completely opposite.  Like the old core is now the new mantle and vise versa.

Did you count the layers in the new ball?

The layers appear to be the same in thickness, but the dye in each layer has switched.  The urethane cover def appears thicker on the new ball (maybe why its more of a thud)

Not sure, all I know is that I do not like it at all.   Maybe new TP5x will be better but I was only sent standard TP5 so that's all I have to compare.  Just kind of bummed...I cannot get along with that feel off my putter as it's impossible for me to judge distance and pace without a certain sound and feel.

Thats exactly how I feel about Chrome Soft and AVX.  I do not get along with soft balls, especially around the greens.

Same.  I'd rather putt with a Top Flite, lol.

Truth!

I was given two dozen of the newer Kirkland balls by my mother who works in retirement at Costco just to stay busy with something.  I had never tried one before so I tried putting with them at home same as the new TP5 and right away I hated it.  Same non-feedback mush feel.  I would literally prefer a Top Flight putting over those.

I also have the new Proto TP5 ball and I will echo comments about it feeling more mushy off the putter. I’m going to give it a rip this weekend so I’ll see how it compares to the current TP5. I wish I got both versions of the balls to test instead of two sleeves of TP5 with one being the Pix version.

I’m curious about the TP5X.

Gimme, gimme! I actually like the current TP5x, though maybe not as expert on comparing different balls as many of you. Would certainly welcome a few more yards, especially off the tee.

 I finally got my proto 2024 tp5x 🙌

pretty cool they gave me a sleeve of white and a sleeve of pix.

Wish they had it delivered the day prior as it got delivered on the day I played Torrey south which would have been ideal to test it. Even tho it’s being overseeded and healing from being aerated last week, I rarely lose balls there so I would of put one ball through its paces lol 😅

So until I can get out there again I can give some feedback on putter feel since there’s comments on firmness of the face.

Rolling it on my flat carpet with some rolling chair grain I used a Bettinardi bb8w with the fly mill face, I can say tp5x feels on par like it should be and guesstimating from using CSxLS prov1 left dash and AVX alongside I’d say compression is about ~96. Ever so softer than left dash and CSxLS but more firm than prov1.

I’m gonna try to get on a trackmam to get some stimulated numbers to check out but more waiting to get back on the course to see actual ball flights.

@phizzy30  I actually have some ‘19 tp5x lying around so I’ll take those if I get out to the trackman and see if it’s more like that or ‘21 version. From just putting and chipping on carpet really can’t distinguish it.

Interesting, when I tested the new TP5 it was definitely a little firmer and longer than last years model. I think the cover is thicker on the new ball so maybe that’s why it feels softer. I’m going to do some more testing tomorrow vs the old ball to head to head to verify, but I much prefer the newer version. Definitely longer and more durable.

Agreed.  I'm not sure how they determined who was sent TP5 and who was sent TP5x but it'd been nice if they would have sent a sleeve of each instead of two sleeves of the same.

Even if the new ball might be faster (TBD) it's not going to be able to sway me due to the horrific mush off the putter.  Likely I'll be checking out the new TP5x and maybe the new firmer balls Callaway is coming out with.  I just can't do mush off a putter.  I would 4 putt every green.
