2024 TP5 and TP5X balls…

I don't have a dog in this hunt. I personally don't favor the TP5, but that's not because it's a "bad ball." As that other hive , MGS, wrote when it did its comprehensive ball testing, there really are no bad golf balls in the pro group. But, if some "scientist" cut up a bunch of brand new balls and posted photos on Tik Tok, then these balls must suck. I know it's winter, and it's cold, and we have little to do and too much time to do it, but this is a fools errand. The balls are fine, we ain't good enough to notice anyway, and you'll probably lose it in 2 holes, anyway......

I'm going to have to go back to Dick's Sporting Goods and snap pictures of the original TP5X Pix box I picked up. Made it to the truck, opened the box, numerous burrs, scratches, and divots in the cover on balls in all four sleeves. Walked back inside and exchanged for the regular TP5X. First dozen golf balls I've ever picked up that looked like that. Didn't appear to have been played or opened previously, box was pristine. 

 

Will play the rest of the dozen or give them to fellow players to test out but don't plan on purchasing again. Shame with the plant being nearby in South Carolina.

Just got an email from TM saying they are processing my response of yes! for them asking me about the free sleeves.  WTF.  Just send them lol.

I'm not thrilled upon reading your post nor the other one that show's the off centered balls.  I just bought a box and put them in play on Sunday and performance seemed fine so far.  However, balls being off centered to that degree can't be good.  I'm going to see what TM has to say about this.

They just emailed me saying they are processing my request and I should get another email end of Feb with delivery details lol. It’s going to be over a month just to receive 2 sleeves to “try.”

I've given them plenty of my business over the years because their their equipment flat out performs.  I work hard for my money and it's about principle in this case.  I'm not looking for a free hand out.

I'm being sarcastic - I'm sure there's millions of golf balls with issues that end up in lakes and knee high weeds all over the world.

 

You'd think for 60 bucks a dozen they could get it right but apparently it's a struggle

The Chrome Tour page is full of "it's already beat to hell.  Poor quality, etc etc

Srixon ZStar Diamond pages full of "bad cover seam" bleh

 

People, it's a golf ball.  They will scuff.  They will be off from time to time.  I assure you they are ALL trying their best to make the best friggin ball possible.

This weeks podcast "No Putts Given" did a great interview with a TM R&D Engineer on the TP5&X about :30 minutes. I will give the TP5x a try, see if it kicks out the -Dash. It is on the website that attracts a lot of negative comments around here?

Bingo, it's a URENTHANE ball; if you can't hit it, buy a Surlyn ball and play it for weeks (or minutes 🥸).....

If you’re losing a ball every 2 holes. There are better options than $4 balls.

Count me as one who doesnt give AF about the inside of the ball.  If I hit it, can find it, and it does ok them I am good.  Im looking forward to trying this one out (tp5x).  My local shop just got them.  Too early here in Ohio tho so hopefully I will get the TM sleeve soon to fart around with.

To me we have to trust the ball manufactuers... If you cut the ball open you can't play it and if you don't cut the ball open... well then you don't know!!!

I'm waiting for my 8 pack as well. But I did just get a postcard from TM yesterday for 4 free balls at Golf Galaxy. Went right over and picked up 4 TP5x which included 2 white and 2 PIX. I hit the PIX in the sim last night and was pleased with performance. Didn't get to test it other new balls though, just the overused sim balls.

Grabbed a sleeve of the new TP5 from my club today and from one round I am impressed. If you are like me and need prov1x performance but prefer the prov1 feel these are worth a try. The TP5 felt quite a bit softer than even the prov1.

 

I did not notice any loss of distance. Launches high, great spin and I liked the soft feel. Had a 15 mph plus wind all day and it held its line like I’m used to.  Played the same ball for 18 holes and it held up really well.

I’ve been playing the prov1x and I didn’t change my numbers at all. 
It was one day, 60 degrees and windy with really wet dormant Bermuda fairways, but my drives ended up where I expected them. May see I bigger difference when it is firm and fast. 
I’m not a high spin player. Just under 100 mph with driver.
