New model out soon?

I am looking into the SkyCaddie SG5 unit. However, I have heard some rumors regarding a new SG7 unit. Does anyone have any information on the new model? I have seen a couple of post on this site, but nothing really informative. Thanks in advance!

there have only been rumors of an sg7 but not details. I have been told that the sg5 was made to be upgraded should skycaddie offer video flyovers like that on the Upro gps.

 

Apparently, they are working on an upgrade on the sg5 that automatically recognizes the course you are at and will not require downloading courses, so long as you have paid for the membership. I have no idea if this is true.

 

Currently, my sg5 will recognize what course I am at when I turn the unit on, but it only if it is downloaded

I purchased the SG5 Holiday Pack right after Thanksgiving from The Golf Warehouse (SG5, Travel Case, Leather Case, Car Charger & Screen Protectors ~ $375), and have really been happy with it. I went to the SkyCaddie website this afternoon to load a couple more courses, and saw a link for an upgrade for the SG5. Clicked on it and was pleasantly surprised to see that SkyCaddie was offering a software upgrade to double the course capacity from 10 courses to 20 courses. In addition, the upgrade included a "depth of green" feature and something else that I don't recall at the moment. The upgrade costs $19.95. One of the few things that was on the negative side of the ledger for buying the SG5 (between SG5, Sonocaddie V300 and uPro), was that you could only carry 10 courses on the unit. Now that I can carry 20 courses loaded on the unit, I am a very happy camper. Overall, I love the performance of this SG5, and would recommend it to anyone.

I just saw on the PGA merchandise show a feature on the SG5 that would have a flyover od the hole and would show the slope of the green (similar to a yardage book). Does anyone know when they will offer this updrade on the SG5?

I heard that as well..... but did not get any ETA. I would love that on my SG5.

I saw the same thing and was a bit confused. I didnt think the SG5 had that and that only the upro could see the entire hole. Maybe its a firmware/sw update? Can anyone verify that this is a feature for the sg5?

I saw a review of it on the Golf Channel's Saturday night coverage of the PGA show and they showed an SG5 with a hole overview with the shape of the hole and all of the hazards. It was not an actual fly over like Upro, but rather a rendering of the hole. In another thread it was stated that it would be available March 1 and that their new web site would go live on 2/4.

Now this puts the sg5 back into the mix. I think they can be had for 299 right?

I just confirmed with a tech at Skygolf that the release date for the upgrade has yet to be determined but it will be soon. They are also taking their site down tomorrow for upgrades.

Will the new upgrade (with the fly over) only be available on the SG5? What about the SG2.5?

I do not know if they will have it for the 2.5 as the only thing on the golf channel was the SG5

Surely to do flyovers they will have to come out and map the whole courses again? They'd have to do fairway and hazard outlines like the green outlines. How's that going to work for them? It'd take ages to remap all the library of courses they have.

Someone said it was just a rendering of the hole and not a flyover. I would imagine that they would have to come back and do some courses over again to get the hole info and the slopes on the greens
