Fitting irons for a hard swinging hooker

Trying to help my friend reshaft some irons. He's about 6'3" with pretty long arms, but the point is he swings fast and real hard with a lot of rotation, but also tends to get handsy and flip. He's got Rifle 5.5's in MP32's now and I think they are way too flexy for him. Not sure of his swing speed, but his drives are generally push draws and gets typical total distances of 300 to 330 yards (consistently checked with my SkyCaddie). Ball flight is terribly low, or else I would think X100's, so that may be the kiss of death. Any ideas?

 

Also, what swingweight do you brutes like in your irons. My driver is D7 and that feels light to him. His driver for reference is E1, but current irons are about D2 to D3.

maybe Flighted Rifles in 6.5 or Dynalite Gold in x100?

Sounds like he ought to try Project X in something like a 6.5. See if you can't set up a single club for him before splurging on a full set

I've got a set of +0.5" 3-pw rifle 6.5's (regular rifle shafts, not project x) sitting in my garage that I just pulled from my irons (.355 taper tip). They are entirely too stiff for me, but for someone who has as high of a swing speed as he does (I'm assuming he does since he consistently hits 300+), they may be perfect. They also have brand new midsize grips that I played one round with. PM me if you think he may want them.

A stiffer shaft will help you, to straighten your shots. But with a wrong swing, the effect is minimal.

Educate his hands! Sounds stupid but the shafts are only a band aid for what's really happening...

Yeah, I know. Ultimately, he'll have to do that, but he refuses to practice and I just need to get it where he can make it through a round. Anything better will do...

I´ve forgotten. The PX works much better against a hook as the DG.

You can't expect the shaft to raise his trajectory very much...that's mostly mechanical. But combine the PX with a little weaker lofts (which would add some bounce....probably not so bad for his swing if he's delofting), it might just be enough.

Aren't PX shafts in 6.5 a low launch and he already has trouble getting the ball up in the air?

 

Is he not hitting down on the ball enough?

He hits down, but the path is so inside-out and flippy that I can't imagine he won't hook it half the time anyway. I just know that 5.5's are way to flexible for him, and I was looking to see if something might take a bit of the hook spin off. Ultimately, he'll need to change the swing.
