Advice on Graphite shafts?

I just purchased a set of l/h Mizuno mx200 irons W/Steel shafts and I want to put graphite shafts in them. I’m 69 yrs, 5’ 9”, not bad shape, swing speed around 80 mph, I hit my 5 iron around 160 yards with Hogan Apex ® graphite shaft. Driver about 240-250 yards with a SMT 455 on a House of Forge ®.

 

Any advice on some reasonably priced graphite iron shafts for me?

I have no clue at all on pricing of iron shafts, but

 

Matrix MFS I think is the name. Are supposed to be good graphite iron shafts.

The Mizuno are probably .355 taper tip and choices are much fewer for taper tip graphite. Whatever you do, do not make them longer than you normally play.

First, I have to ask why you didn't go for the mizuno graphite shaft? The reason for the question is that Mizuno supply iron heads specially weighted for graphite shafts. In order to retain a reasonable swing weight you should stick to moderately heavy graphite shafts around 80 grams and above.

UST Proforce RV2 75 and 95

More expensive options include

Aldila MLTi 85,

Graphite designs Tour AD 75 and Tour AD 75

 

You should check out a few light weight steel shafts as well

Nippon NS 850, NS 950 and V90

Davemac gave you excellent advice.I would add Graphite designs older models Gat 95 gr, which come up on ebay off and on.I would stay away from the mizuno stock shafts- too light and too tip soft.

I personally have the Aldila NV 85-R mlti 86gr shafts in my Srixons,and these perform smooth and solid!

Some good shafts have already been recommended for you.

Here is something else to keep in mind. For every 10 grams of shaft weight you go down, you will lose 1 swingweight point (2 grams). So if you go from a 125 gram steel shaft to an 85 gram graphite shaft you will lose 4 swingweight points (8 grams). You can make up this weight by:

-- Adding lead tape

-- Adding weight down the shaft and into the clubhead

-- Lengthening your clubs (graphite specs can run +1/2" in length)

-- Or a combination of the above
