Well i am building a 58 degree Ping Tour W sand wedge for my sweetie, would like to get some input from our women members as to what you prefer as a shaft in your sand wedges? Steel or graphite? any favorites? from what i am finding from Ping and Cleveland is the use of graphite shafts with a 59 gm weight . Trying to see if a soft lightweight steel might not be a better choice, Whats your opinion? thanks

We have a thread here discussing wedges. It really is personal preference. I just bought a Mizuno MP-R with the Nippon 950 rEG flex steel to try out. I am not sure how I like it. It seems hard to control right through impact due to it being heavier. I have not played much at all since I got it due to holidays. My old wedges are Ping MB in senior flex graphite. It is hard for ladies because getting a demo wedge in a lighter flex is almost impossible!

Which Cleveland wedge can you get a graphite shaft in? My husband got the CG14, and I did not think you could order those with graphite. Or are you reshafting them for her?

I agree with kokogirl. This preference depends on the golfer. I currently use 75 gram regular flex graphite shafts in my wedges (50, 54, & 58). My graphite shaft specs provide a mid to high kick point and less torque than my previous shafts. My current Callaway X-forged wedges are a perfect fit for me.

My previous set of wedges had the True Temper GS-75 steel shafts. These are the lightest steel shafts on the market. The weigh around 85 grams. Hope this helps. They come in regular and stiff flex, but the kick point on them are low.

All of my wedges are graphite so the weight is consistent with my irons. I think if your lady friend has graphite irons, she may prefer a consistent feel. Hitting good wedge shots is so much about touch/feel and holding the club lightly, I think the additional weight could be distracting if you went from graphite all the way thru your set to steel in just the wedges.

It's not how...it's how many

Which brand shafts do you have in your wedges. I am thinking I do not like my experiment with the steel shaft. Do you have regular or senior flex in your irons? thanks!

Kokogirl -- are you just unhappy with the weight of the steel, or does the club just feel too stiff for you? Do you have a store near you that offers a playability guarantee? It might be worth it to order exactly what you want. Can't beat custom ordering clubs IMO especially your scoring clubs.

I am not sure what I do not like about the wedge. Maybe it is too stiff. It feels like I am going to "lose" it through impact. Does that make sense? It could be my swing and I am being too armsy and not rotating my torso. I have trouble with early release and casting on my irons, and maybe this feel is exaggerated with this wedge in this flex?

My pro fitted me in my new irons, but I went rambo and ordered the wedge online on my own. After I play a few weeks (I have not played much this past couple weeks) and take another lesson I will ask him about wedge advise. I wish that I could demo a some wedges in different shafts, like I can the irons, but they do not exist. I may be able to find a Ping guy with some different shafts in the wedges, though. I am going to talk with the Callaway rep when they have the next demo day also. Those wedges are nice, too.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
