TM Tourpreferred

Maybe something is wrong with my search option but I could not find any threads about the new TM tourprerred irons. For those that have hit them other than into a net or screen, what did you think about them. Are they in your opinion better than the r7tps? I hit them at eh golf shop today into a screen and seem to get really good results but just wanting to get some opinions on them from people that have actually got to hit them already.

There are plenty of threads on here about them I am sure I have added stuff on most as to start with I was thinking about buying a set and now have a set.

I managed to hit a demo set of both irons on a course and loved the way the tour preferred felt, the grind on them really feels great interacting with the turf, it dosen't dig just sweeps thru.

Had the new sticks in the bag for a couple of months and posted by best score of 2008 on their second outing.

I really like the irons but I also know a lot of guys who really love their R7 TP's and have no interest in even trying the new irons against them.

Great iron. They are forgiving, have a thin topline, easy to work, they have everything you would want in an iron. I almost got these to replace my i5's.............almost.

I had a set of r7 TPs early last year and a set of Tour Preferreds as well. The Tour Preferreds felt a little softer to me. I ho'd them both eventually, but now have another set of Tour Preferreds to toy around with. :D

Well I bought them, I did not make a big thread about it because I tire of the Taylormade bashing.

Basically here's a quick rundown:

-Small head. Very very compact cavity as well.

- Compact cavity gives a very respectable sweet spot. I'd say it's about as big as I've seen on a player's head.

- Feel is very good, for a cavity. I think the newest casting process they are using (it's documented on Youtube somewhere) is allowing them to do some funky stuff with metals that they weren't able to before. They say this process lends itself to a very thin face, and I think that does transfer nicely into sound/feel. That being said, these are NOT the sound/feel of forged blade. Or even let's say an MP-57.

I did not find a more forgiving BUT workable player's iron to fit my swing. Even though I couldn't stand the busy cavity design, I STILL bought these retail. Looking down at them is fine though. Believe it or not, the appearance is growing on me. I guess it's not the hottest looking chick at the dance, but this one is worth taking home to meet mom. (A couple of crooked teeth and coke bottle glasses but she treats you right.)

Take that for what it's worth. I would only replace these with something to enhance feel, but you will sacrifice some forgiveness if you do.

Edit: One other thing I like is it seems nowadays if you want a more forgiving club everyone is cooking lofts and shafts, etc. These have fairly conservative lofts, so they fit in with the player's stuff of today.... don't get me wrong, they're plenty strong enough lofts, just not over cooked so you need 17 wedges and won't use the 3i.

Colin hit the description right on the head, although I've actually liked the look from the beginning!

I have the Tour Preferreds w/ a R7 Ltd. driver sitting here and right next to it I have the X22 Tours with a FT iQ Tour driver. Both sets are outstanding player cavity clubs. I will have a tough decision come spring.

i just got a set of the tp as well and liked them alot. I have played titleist irons forever, and was recently playing 735cm's with ns pro shafts. the other funny thing is I had always played stiff shafts, but the tp set i got had dynamic gold r300 shafts. Since it felt ok when i demo'ed them, i thought i would take the r300 and worse case change to s300 later. But surprisingly, i like the r300, and they don't feel weak or whippy to me at all. My swing speed is right around 100 so i guess i fall in the stiff/ reg range. But the TP do feel soft and really easy to hit compared to the titleist 735 cm's i have been hitting forever. So all in all i like them alot and the only tweaking might be the shafts as i get to feel the clubs better

had em pretty much since release. Replaced my 05 Forged TP irons with them. Couldn't be any happier. Great irons, great feel for cast. I've always played forged, and these really don't feel bad by any means.

They're super forgiving and LONG.

had these for about a month now, at first i didn't know if i liked them. after playing a few rounds to get dialed in, just wasn't happy with the performance. figured out it was the shafts, got fitted at golfsmith where the fitter went off of my driver speed(107 avg.) i was hitting 6-iron with dgs300 175-180 avg. carry at the store, then went to the course and couldn't get that out of my 4-iron! after a lot of research and trial and error at my local proshop, decided on project x 5.0--love them. they feel like my old rifles i had years ago. i am back to my old smooth swing with my irons. that being said, these irons are great. once you have the right shaft they are deadly accurate, both in dispersion and distance.

have read a lot of people dissing the looks, i personally like them, they are clean looking.they also have a blade shape head, sharp and small.

do yourselves a favor and make sure to get properly fitted, check the ego at the door and don't go too stiff. it is a costly lesson i learned. as johnny miller said in golf digest, wy swing harder with your irons, if you need another ten yards go up an iron.
