you can choose your own wedges without getting fitted really...its not that hard to find one that fits your game....if u play in a place that would rain alot or is soggy u want a wedge with more bounce, if u play where its dry and hard u want a wedge with little bounce. u can buy a wedge with alot of bounce and always grind it off if u want to... loft u can go with any combo u want 54 60, 56 60, 54 58, 52 58,..etc and shaft flex u can just stick wit the stock shaft.. shouldnt really matter

if ur a noob out of the sand u might want a lob wedge with the higher bounce to help it from digging too much too.

i personally like titleist wedges and the shape of the head. but its all up to u.

Excellent advice from nikeblades, course condition is definately one of the factors you need to consider when choosing wedges. I also like his advice about buying higher bounce wedges and grinding down--but only once you get a better idea for what you like (believe it or not, once you start playing the wedge game, it gets addicting! :D ).

Other factors to consider are your swing characteristics--in a nutshell digger/driver-type swings (steep) favor higher bounced wedges to prevent digging while hitting down onto the ball (aggressive swing). Sweeping/shallow swings need less bounce in order to get under the ball (less-aggressive). Also consider that it can be easier to play cutesy, finesse shots w/ lower bounces or at least w/ custom grinds.

FairwayFred might chime in later--he owns/works for Scratch Golf, and is a member here. His site (scratchgolf.com) has an incredible fitting guide that outlines what types of grinds fit what types of swings. I highly recommend checking it out.

As for loft--entirely personal. Some people like to stagger evenly from their PW--I've found the 53* and 58* set-up to my liking. I don't really like the 56, the 58 does nicely to serve both functions of the lob/sand while the 53 is a nice gap wedge, but w/ more options closer to the hole. Like I said though, it's entirely personal. ;) Good luck to you.

Ping and Cleveland make finding the perfect wedge for you a snap through their fitting system. They are based on your swing type( steep or shallow) and your corse conditions (soft-medium-hard). I used to be all about cleveland wedges, but have since converted to titleist after trying the spin milled. great wedge.

You should defintely check out Scratch wedges. FairwayFred (Ari) can help you determine what grind works for you, plus you can customize the shape and finish. My Scratch JLM grind (high bounce) 53 & 58 are the best wedges I've ever had. Plus the 1018 carbon steel has an excellent, soft feel. Every round one of them produces something magical!!

Interesting that I didn't notice anyone talking about lie angles for a wedge. Ping fitting uses static and dynamic measurements to determine if your swing is flat or upright. But, I have noticed that some people stand closer to the ball when they play pitches with wedges and I would expect that they need their wedges more upright than their other irons. I also know that some players play with their hands very low around the green. I think some of the best bunker players have this characteristic, and I suppose they could benefit from a flatter lie.
