Scotty without Titleist or vice versa

Scotty had an excellent marketing background if I remember correctly that was invaluable to him and Titleist...not to mention that Scotty happened to be there when a young pup named Tiger came along thru the junior ranks and folks noticed his Scotty even back then.

I thought Tiger played a Ping Anser as a youth. And that's why his current putter has a Ping grip on it (because he liked the feel).

That's right. And in the gold-plated winning putter vault, there is one with Tiger's name on it. Which came first- the Ping Anser, or Scotty Cameron Newport? I think the answer is Ping.

I do wish Titleist would introduce a non-scotty putter line. I typically like Titleist products, but I refuse to pay SC prices. Too many other great putters on the market to pay that kind of coin. I think Titleist is ignoring a large volume of potential customers that are priced out (financially/or via principle) of the SC line. Of course, maybe that is better for Titleist's brand image.

My bad then...I thought when he was in the midst of the 3 USGA Jrs and 3 US Amateurs in a row he had a TeCu Scotty or something like that.

Tiger had a Cameron Newport in his bag for his third US Amateur win.

They both should thank Tiger (for the putters). What was Nike golf before Tiger? People want to use what Tiger uses. I know Scotty was doing his thing before Tiger, but come on. How bad does Nike cringe when the only close ups of Tigers clubs you see on TV is when he is putting. TITLEIST-ouch.

• Would Scotty Cameron putters be what they are today with our bearing the Titleist name?

Not even close - Titleist's marketing and distribution made a good putter maker a famous putter maker.

• Would Titleist putters be what they are today if Scotty's name wasn't on them?

Not even close - Remember the Dead Centers:)? Seriously, not even close.

• Did Titleist make Scotty Cameron who he is today? OR did Scotty Cameron make Titleist putters what they are today?

Equal props, as long as we are referring to putters

Think about this please... lets also assume that they never teamed up. Would people be going crazy for Titleist putters? or would they be buying them for $300+ from some guy names Scotty?

People would still be buying Camerons for $300+, but not anywhere near the numbers with Titleist.

to make a comparison, I would think Cameron would sell as many putters as Bettinardi or Mills without Titleist.

note: really just curious here... i love my Newport2. It's just weird how things work, similar to the question of would Nike be in golf if they didn't have TW?

Did any one bring up the fact the Cameron worked for Mizuno?

Cameron has worked for Ray Cook and did some collaboration with Cleveland (for Roger Cleveland) as well. Those affiliations did little for Cameron compared to what Acushnet has done. Without each other, both may not be at the position they are now. Acushnet's stand in being a company for serious players is exactly what made Cameron successful. Had a company making beginner and intermediate clubs signed Cameron I doubt that either would have attained the level of success Cameron/Acushent enjoy today.
