Proper Golf Ball for Swing Speed

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post about golf balls. I'm a mid 20s handicap and I started about 6 months ago. Up to this point, I've been playing pretty much whatever ball I can find or buy.

I bought a box of used Titleist's off of ebay and they were all older DT 90, DT 100, or DT Wound balls. I've played a round or two with them and I wasn't too impressed although I couldn't really tell if
it was the ball that was affecting my performance. Research says they are pretty old so I was sort of concerned.

I picked up a Callaway Tour ix ball and I've been using that for about 2 rounds now and it feels fantastic. This ball seems to be marketed for higher swing speeds than mine so I was wondering if I should still use it
or maybe try the Callaway Tour i or the Callaway HX Hot.

My swing speed has not been measured lately but I hit my driver anywhere from 240 to 270 in total yardage (I play a 10.5 Cobra F Speed, doesn't roll much). Drives seemed to go forever with the Callaway Tour ix

What ball should I use?

Driving the ball 240-270 for someone who started just 6 months ago and playing to a mid 20 handicap is impressive. I have been playing for almost 2 years and am a 19. I hit my drives between 210-245, use a GPS to determine distance.

 

I have tried several 2 and 3 piece balls, i.e. Wilson smart core, ultra, titanium, 2007 zip, pinnacle gold distance, nike power distance, nike juice, srixon trispeed, topflite XL5000, titleist NXT and some balls no longer produced. I really don't feel that my play warrants balls north of $25/dozen. Additionally, while I have hit the expensive balls, PROV1X, I don't believe that a mid to high handicapper can properly take advantage of its benefits. I feel that the Wilson Ziip, 2007 product, a 3 piece ball, I have not tried the newer version, Srixon Trispeed, another 3 piece are excellent 3 piece balls that are reasonably priced. As far as cheaper 2 piece balls, the Wilson Smart Core and Nike Juice have done me well. The smart core is very inexpensive and probably one of the best deals of all. It is a good 2 piece ball, offering solid distance and feel, certainly for the price.

Thanks. Ya driving the ball and having good distance is one of the positives of my game. I track almost every round using OOB golf and since I started I've gone from a 35 or more to a 26. I use a Bushnell 1500 rangefinder and on 400 yard holes, I'm consistently between 5 iron and 9 iron into the green. A mediocre drive that goes straight will land and roll out to about 230 and a great drive will be lower in trajectory and roll out to about 275. I feel like I lose most of my shots on chips and approaches into the green. I also routinely take over 35 putts a round.

 

I have played some of the golf balls you mentioned including Juice and Mojo. I think I'm going to go with the NXT Tour. When I picked up the Callaway HX Tour and used it for a round, I drove the ball incredibly well and I also seemed to hit my irons about 5 to 10 yards farther than normal. I hit my usual irons towards the greens and I was consistently on the back fringe or over the green. Think I need to invest in a quality ball so I don't keep changing which I think affects my distance. Plus I'm getting to point where I lose at most a ball a round so the price shouldn't be a big deal.

 

I bought 24 2007 Titleist NXT Tours off lostgolfballs.com for $32 (including shipping). I hope this is a good ball for my swing speed.

Nxt tour is a great ball for anyone who wants distance and control but not the high price of premium balls. I also bought 5 dz tour nxt from lostgolfballs for 50 bucks
