Substitute for the standard double sided golf grip tape?

Double sided Scotch Tape??

I'd like to regrip my irons tomorrow, but I can't find double sided grip tape anywhere (Folsom CA). The internet seems over priced and I don't want to wait for shipping.

Would double sided Scotch Tape work? I've talked to several people and they all said the typical double sided tape is more for the solvent to create a slippery effect for sliding the grip on... not really for bonding the grip to the shaft. They said the grip should stay on without the double sided tape. TRUE??

I don't need to build up layers either.

At least try to use double-sided masking tape. That is basically the same as grip tape, plus it will be easier to remove in the future than Scotch tape.

I thought the stuff GolfSmith sells is the same thing as double sided masking tape. I can't find either locally... Home Depot, Lowes, Paint stores...

 

Am I right about grips staying on not because of the double sided tape, but because of the tight fit? The double sided tape is really just for the slippery effect when installing?

I found an article on regripping and the author stated Double Sided Scotch Tape is fine.

try carpet tape - same thing - you can probably find it at a local flooring store.

 

I wouldn't install without tape, I think the grips would twist, especially at the butt.

Put 1 layer of regular masking tape on there and blow them on..you'll never need to re-tape again. The grips will not twist and take 5 seconds to get off when they need to be replaced.

After initially using double-sided tape I now only use regular packaging tape and it works fine (plus it's less than half the price).

Some players only use a "a starter", a 1/2" piece of tape at the butt end to get the grip started after that as long as there is solvent on the shaft the grip should slide on.

I have the grips and solvent. I'm just too impatient and cheap to order a roll of double sided tape from Golf Smith for $16 then wait for delivery. I have one strip of double sided tape left from my previous batch, so I think I'll cut that up for the butt ends and use double sided Scotch Tape down the shafts.

I've used double sided scotch tape for years. Also, charcoal lighter fluid in lieu of grip solvent and both have worked fine. Have regripped with Golf Pride Tour Velvet or Multi-compound grips and both have been fine.

Just regripped several clubs with double-sided scotch tape...worked just fine. In fact, one of the clubs I regripped (bought club used) had two sided scotch tape used on it...and it was extremely easy to take off. Much easier than the masking tape to be honest.

you can also try blowing them on with an air compressor. Put a layer of one sided tape first though.

I have used no grip tape on shaft for years. I use a midsize Lamkin, and my grip size comes out perfectly at 3/64ths. Just make sure all of your shaft butts are the same diameter to make sure your grip size is consistant.

Use LePages rubber cement over ordinary masking tape. Works great. Multiple layers of tape will make the grip slightly larger.

I have used WD-40 for solvent as well and it worked fine

I used carpet tape for years and it does work but it's a nightmare to remove so I began to experiment with other tape, now I use 2 layers of 3M tape with rosonol lighter fluid to install. They take about 45 minutes to dry and I've never had one to twist.
