Hey guys,

 

I noticed the little Junior section so I thought i'd check it out.

 

Im 16 years old 1.7 handicap. Play in canada and compete in tons of tournaments.

 

give me some information about yourself. what tournaments your play in. Handicap. Best tournaments. etc..

well first of all welcome. I am Jack Nelson from Northern Ireland. I play off 9 but im told its a 5 USGA. Play for my school and club. Play in Royal County down and Porttadown golf club.

Don't mean to threadjack a little. Jack, what makes you guys say you're less under USGA? Just curious, thanks.

Hey Gligster I'm Brad a 16 year old from Canada too and play in a fair amount of tournaments myself. Do you live in Ontario?? If you do what tourneys did you play in last summer.

in the US you can hand in a card in a practice round and the season is year round....so in essence you can have a compotition every day if you want...here in ireland if you handed in a card in a practice round theyd look at u and laugh[be4 prob suspending you from the club!!!] and the season is from about march until october and we can only play in open[open to any1 from any club] singles which are on once a week in our home clubs and represent our best chance of gettin cut.clu compototions for members are on once or twice aa week aswell but they represent no chance of getn cut because the sandbagging brigade are out in these to get point 1's for upcoming big events and so the SS for the comps are massively high.ive had 39 points off 4[ 1 over] and got a point1 b4.i nkow amny peolple who have gone 2 america from my area and playn off 4,5,6,7, etc and all ahve returned a year or so later always playin off about 2 or 3 shots less.they have admitted to me that they dont deserve these hcaps.ive been playn off 4 since sep.05 and my 1st opportunity to get cut since then will be in bout 3 weeks

i know the guys in canada and NE US have the same thing with the snow...but our layoff has no meaning to it bcos the courses are playable all year round.

Welcome! Kyle Blakeney, Washington, Iowa, USA. no handicap at the moment. Somewhere around 2-5 would be an educated guess.

Here in Iowa we have some of the biggest temp changes, normally this time of year it is around 20-40 degrees. But I have played in January and Febuary(both during unusually warm spells) so I'm gonna try to play golf in every month this year.

Aye that is what i have heard. I havn't played it yet. Herd it was hard but not as hard as Royal County Down so fingers crossed it will be ok for my first time. Good luck to yau in your first comp.

That sucks, at our club there are comp's every sunday for men or juniors with senior handicaps (18 or less) and at least 4 comps a week, then there's a semi-open day and an open day for juniors and competitions every tuesday for juniors, you can also get cut by playing with an adult member 3 times and your avg. score from those 3 rounds will be taken and you will be cut to that hcp. you have to play with an adult because then they'll know your not cheating and the adult has to sign your scorecard as well.
