Ball trajectory- then and now

you know, I started playing golf when I was in 5th grade(27 now) and I can still remember the first climbing shot I ever hit, it was so awesome. I think its what made me want to get better, to see that ball flight again.

at the range today I found and hit 3 ballata balls from my bucket. All with a four iron blade. They felt sooooo soft and and pure compared to brand new range balls

Quite a few members have commented that they'd like the old balls back, to experience the flight again.

 

For those in the US, try your local Play It Again store. It may take an hour or so sat on the floor, but if you have the same luck as me you can yield a dozen or so round and playable balatas. I bought 8 Titleist balatas (1 90 and 7 100s) and 4 Maxfli MT100, 30c a ball- negotiable.

being from the balata ball era, remember they lost 1.3 yards per month in distance. the older they get the less compression they have. i will honestly attest, you could in 1986 take a Hogan, Wilson, Titleist forged 7 iron and a new Titleist balata ball would fly 175 yards. but it had to be above 80 degrees.

 

so the used ones u get are at the minimum, ten years or older. you will get the marshmellow feel, but in no means is it comparable to the balata ball when they were new, and it was the "ball"
