New uPro Website

Just checked out a new uPro website. Looks nice and is much cleaner than the previous one... but the course search and user login screens are down and not working. It says "check back for new website and new features".

 

Hoping this means the new stats module is coming... but for now I'm dead in the water at finding a course I need to sync...

 

For those wondering about the 100 dollar rebate... it is loud and clear on the new website.

Callaway should have made this an instant rebate. That would have created much more excitement and immediate sales. I was thinking about picking one up, but since the program is going to run through June that gives me another month to see if any other makers do anything similar or better.

 

Again, looks like a great product, but I can wait another month.

 

Also, 10-12 weeks to do the rebate??? What's up with that!

Yeah figures I buy one off the bay on Saturday. Guess it's the same though, got it for $299 with free shipping. I'm really excited to get it. I've read quite a bit about the upro on these forums.

Its a great unit, and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

 

As for the rebate, it'd be interesting to know the statistics on running a mail-in rebate vs. an instant rebate. With a mail in rebate, companies get the benefit of advertising a lower price, but having customers who end up paying full price because they never sent in the paperwork...

Most of the time a company does mail in rebates because there will always be a % of customers that don't mail it in. It's good odds....

The new website was up and running last night - I was able to login and sync with no problems. The new web interface is nicer and they added a new utility that will "find" your uPro and launch the sync page. I hope the stats/shot tracking module isn't too far off as well.

I know mail-in rebates aren't claimed very often. I was just making the point that if they wanted to move some units quickly and increase market share/presence, instant rebates would have been more effective and immediate.

 

I'm willing to wait to see what happens with other GPS units now because I have a laser rangefinder so a GPS unit isn't necessary and because I'll take the chance that other higher-end units also aren't moving as quickly so one of these makers is going to wake up and realize that just as people have watched costs by playing better value courses, taking off-peak tee times, buying other golf gear only on sale and not when immediately intro'd, they'll wait these high prices out too.

 

Not sure that these companies realize that people also have a tough time paying more than $200 for a nice golf unit when you can get a highly featured golf or personal GPS at that same price point. Auto GPS sales didn't really move until prices came down and neither will golf GPS units.

 

Just thought one of these makers would realize that being at or close to $400 with or without rebate is where the market's saying "No Thanks."

I couldn't agree more. At 399 I was in no hurry to buy a GPS. With a GG $50 coupon and a $100 from Callaway, I couldn't buy it fast enough.

 

 

Besides, they get an annuity out of me - they'll be selling me courses and software upgrades for years.
