Top flite gamer shorter than NXT Tour ?

I'm currently trying to settle on a ball and I'm currently torn between the NXT Tour and the Top Flite Gamer. I can get both for the same price (don't ask how!).

From my experience, I feel that the gamer has more greenside spin and stops faster on full iron shots. But, it seems i'm hitting the Nxt Tour 1/2 iron longer... my sample being very small, it might just be an impression...

What are your experiences with both ball? Did you loose distance with the gamer?

I picked up a box of Gamers just to see what the hype was about and I was actually impressed with them. I haven't experienced a distance loss with any club.

i have played the gamers, and I didn't notice any distance issues with them, but I did notice the cover was friggin FRAGILE

NXT tour's fly off the face of clubs. Combine that with the ability to stop the ball on the green and the nxt tour is a great choice for a golf ball. Especially for high spin players like myself that would like a little less spin on iron shots.

I normally play Tour ix balls, but the Gamer appears to be a quality substitute. No shorter, in fact I drove it farther... I do like these....

Mmmm, maybe it all had something to do with the cold weather at the begining of the season.

I do think that the Gamer spins more than the Nxt Tour, so I might lean more towards the gamer, even for the same price as the nxt's.

I just finished playing a round with a guy that has switched from ProV1s to Top Flite Gamers. He swears by them.

I usually play with Callaway HX Hots or NXTs but if the performance is the same I might try the Gamers.

Any recent thoughts on the Gamer?

Hey I like the Gamers too. My take on them is that they spin a lot on all clubs. The premium balls seem to have found a way to limit Driver spin without giving up wedge spin. My experience with Gamers from the tee is that a fade or draw/hook is accentuated, but quality shots are still fine. About 5 yards shorter for me off the Driver vs. Prov1 and Srizon Z etc. but I am guessing it is on roll out because I experience no distance loss on irons. My SS is 103 and I drive the ball 250-270 depending on how solid I hit it, so 5 yards does not trouble me. If you are swinging less than 95mph, I'd suggest an optimized spin two-piece like the e5+. Likely the Gamer spins more off the driver than the Prov1 and other top shelf balls do, which explains the distance loss and exaggerated side spin on mishits. For the money it is a very nice ball. I would also take a look though at a couple of others in the pricepoint. Callaway Hot Bite is closer to a top shelf ball, as is the Wilson ZIP. The ZIP is great though might be too soft feeling for some players. Also, you can still occasionally find new in box Precept U-Tri Tour balls off eBay. They were made as late as 2005-6 and in my opinion are as good as anything you can buy. But if I had to pull money out of the pocket for less than top shelf price, it would be for the Hot Bite. I do like the NXT Tours, but they just don't quite spin as much off the wedge as the previous mentioned balls. Feel is decent though, durability is good, and distance is just fine. Sooo many choices huh!
