To Buy or Not to Buy?

I have the opportunity to buy a Ping G5 9* driver w/ and Aldila 65 stiff shaft for 240 brand spankin New (Plastic wrap still on). It will be the first 460 driver i will own and have heard wonders about it's forgiveness and power. I'm in need of a larger driver and have always found Ping Clubs of great quality. Anyone having any praises about the club and it's shaft combonation, let me know. THANKS

I've been playing with mine for a couple of months now. The honeymoon isn't over yet! :)

 

It's long and straight. I can work it in either direction if I need to. The NV shaft is nice enough but it isn't as silky-feeling as the YS-6+ in my 905T.

 

A good deal if you ask me.

Just bought the same setup yesterday (except 10.5*). I went to Golf Town with a very open mind and tested pretty much every new driver on the market including the HiBore, and eventually settled with the G5 NV65 stiff (I wasn't a big fan of this shaft in my 905T, but it just worked best). The Launch monitor results for the above setup were just the best. With the X460 and the HiBore as close seconds.

 

Buy it. Good Club.

Now let me explain that :P

 

I couldn't stand the feel of this club at all. It drives me crazy, and as a result I don't think I could ever carry it again (used it for 3 months)

 

However, this thing is long and pretty straight w/ a very nice ball flight.

 

IMO you should pick it up, this is a good club that will produce some long results. Worst case scenerio the price is nice enough that you can turn around and resell if you aren't happy.

absolutely buy it.I love mine,even though I have the Prolaunch it's a great combo with the bridgestone e6.

There is no doubt the G5 is a great driver and at that a price (hope this isn't a Ping dealer - they could lose their account) a wonderful deal.

 

That being said, if the shaft doesn't fit you it's probably not worth it.

A great club - I just got one and compared to my Si3 380 it is at least 25 years further carry on mishits, and much straiter. I got it with a NT-65 proto shaft, definately worth the upgrade cost. Surprisingly I can work it either way too at will. All my friends tried them at a recent demo day and were all impressed.

I too recently purchased a G5 with the Prototype Comp NT. I went in with an open mind comparing with my R5 TP w/diamana and SQ Tour w/ diamana. The lauch and spin numbers were flat out better with the G5 and Prototype Comp NT shaft.
