Spined vs NBP

Recommended Posts

Which is better?
My Cobra's are sweet and i love them... That being said, I'm having problems.

So they are 6.0's... They are spined... and i have the spine set at 9:00, facing the target...

My SS Avg. is around 111 - 115... So in this thinking i set the spine at 9. Thinking it will stiffen the shaft just a hair.

I understand i have a 'path problem' at the moment. And i mean that I'm a little inconsistent... some heeled, some toed.

BUT, I'm consistently fading...

Would me switching to the other side... NBP at 9:00 be a better for me?

My understanding of spining was that the spine at 9 would make the flex a little stiffer and i would gain some control... And the NBP at 9:00 would be weaker but gain more yards.

So does too stiff = fade or vica-versa?

Cheers in advance,
Johnny

What kind of spine finder are you using? If youre using the JB Spinefinder-type, then the side that pops up to the top is the NBP. I always point that to the target.

Some say that pointing that to the target will increase distance.

Conversely, pointing the NBP at 3-o'clock will increase accuracy

I bought them already spined. They have two points... The spine on one side and the NBP on the other.

Damn this thing is confusing... we are under different impressions for whatever reason.

Mine had markings on both sides but the explanation was the opposite of the picture you posted.

Thanks for the input and help.

Are you serious? Rotating a shaft in a different orientation will give you better consistency? What if you're still an inconsistent golfer after that? Blame some other piece of equipment?

Thanks for the insight snoopy.

I asking about the two points in the shafts and what they will do... nothing more.

f*** it. I love this site till you get the smart-assed comments.

Changing the orientation of the shaft will not help your ball flight.

All that happens when you properly align a shaft is the shaft bends as if it were perfectly round - it wobbles less.

If you orient the spine to try to "correct" a swing path problem, you won't - you will simply get the shaft to wobble more.

If you ATTEMPT to orient a shaft to influence a draw or a fade, you make your clubs non-conforming. The USGA only allows a "neutral" alignment - though they do not specify what that is.

I agree with thewitt.

Don't sweat the smart a$$ comment B.L. Johnny -- it's a question I've asked about, too.
