i am playing at la cantera in san antonio in 2 weeks

anyone have any advice

If you haven't bought this through a package I would recommend going to ezlinks.com. You can only make tee times up to 8 days in advance, but the tee time specials are pretty good. Cart and green fee for a week from tomorrow is $87, but you have to sign up at least two people. Worth a look.

I've played a lot of golf at La Cantera. If your playing multiple days, just play the Palmer course once...just to see it. It's kind of wacky, not NEAR as good as the Main course ( I think they call it the resort course now) The Tournament (Main, resort, whatever it's called) is spectacular. Great Views, usually in great condition, some very very good holes, only a couple of wacky holes. It's pretty straight forward in my opinion. Outside of La Cantera, there is some wonderful golf and a fraction of the price. My favorite course in SA has always been Pecan Valley. What a FABULOUS layout. Very classic and traditional, difficult but as fair as you can get. Probably will only cost you $45 or so. It's worth double that, even though the conditions can be sometimes sketchy.

Bring lots of balls. There are some holes that have very rugged rough/O.B., and can be hard to find your balls in there.

Enjoy it - it was one of my favorite courses in the SAT area, and make sure to take special time to enjoy that view on the elevated teebox overlooking the city and the amusement park.

Just played La Cantera on Wednesday. My brother booked the Palmer course by accident thinking it was the tournament course. All in all it is a nice course but there are entirely to many blind shots/up hill drives for this course to be taken seriously. My brother and I both scored well and enjoyed our time there, but the Palmer isn't worth the $135 retail price. I went so far as to buy the course book to help with the blind shots and it didn't even help much. We didn't get to play the Resort course so I would have to refer to the above listings and agree with the advice of playing the Palmer once to see it but otherwise spend your time and money at the Resort Course.
