Garmin Golfgps.com Blackberry or iphone GPS App

Recommended Posts

how is everyone finding these?
Last week I downloaded the application for my blackberry curve. I paid the $40 and have only tried it twice. I have found that mine isn't automatically updating the yardages. Its acting very slow and not like I think a GPS should. I am wondering how everyone else s finding this application and maybe if it's not just a problem with my blackberry. I paid the $40 subscription fee and if it would work like a usual golf gps it would be a steal of a deal.

Id loev to hear your guys thoughts

Just used my golfshot app on my iphone for the first time today. It worked pretty well (especially for $30). The course I played has a lot of trees with overhanging limbs and at times it had trouble picking up a signal and delayed on updating yardages even from the fairway. Overall, it worked well and helped me with club selection. It also seems to work well for tracking your stats. I'd recommend it to any golfer with an iphone.

Another vote for Golfshot for iPhone. It's $30, but I've found it to work extremely well......

I'd like to here more on this, I have an iPhone and have been looking into the different GPS apps for it, the reviews I've read on Macworld say lot about eating up your battery, and that it uses the telephone towers first to triangulate your position which isn't as accurate (can be up 5-8 yards off), it will use the phones GPS once it decides the phone towers aren't accurate enough, or something along those lines.
I heard the iPhone battery doesn't hold up to well being on through 18 holes.
I played 36 holes on Friday and still had at least 50% of the battery left. However, I do turn off 3G when I use the Golf GPS app and my Auto-Lock setting is always at 1 minute. I was leery of battery drain as the iPhone is a battery hog. But I usually charge it up in the car/home/office before a round.

In regards to accuracy...my home course has GPS and I have a laser range finder. I found Golfshot to be pretty accurate, maybe 1-3 yards off the cart GPS or laser. However I have no idea of the accuracy fluctuates depending on the cell coverage in your particular area....

For $30 and no subscription fees - it's easily the best app I purchased. The scorecard makes keeping stats a breeze. It e-mails your scorecard and stats after each round and/or you can look it up on their website. It lets you program 'lay-up' yardages that give you your 'go to' distance when you are bailing out of trouble or laying up on a par 5. And like other GPS units, you can measure off any shot by pushing the golf ball icon once at the start point (like on the tee box) and again when you get to your ball.

Golfshot is really good. Switched from ViewTi to Golfshot recently and like the stats so much better, the layup yardages are great. Well worth the money, and get it now since it will go to subscription status according to the developer.

Battery life isn't too bad. Can easily get through 18 in a 3g area.

I've heard a few different ideas on battery conservation.
- Turn off 3g (seems to be common between everyone)
- Turn AutoLock off so that its on at all times and does not need to regain a GPS signal
- Turn AutoLock to 1 minute so that the screen stays off as long as possible

I've tried the AutoLock set to off. I hate waiting for it to acquire a signal.
