New Exotics Iron XCG-3

i dont know. i play their xcg-v hybrids and love them to death, but i dont like their prices. They just lowered prices on xcg and xcg-v because new line is coming out. TEE is a low volume high margin company, which i think is a bad strategy in the golf industry which is consolidating very quickly - dont see how they can survive next 5 years with this strategy. Dont get me wrong, i love my hybrids and would buy them again, but i dont like their rpicing strategy.

I love TEE and was excited about getting new irons for next year. Guess what they decided not to make the XCG3 irons left handed. I love the XCG irons but can't play them because of non conforming grooves.

FYI. Talked to TE today the MSRP w/ KBS tour shafts will be 599.99 will be available January.

At first glance I don't like the look. The inserts are too busy and the red part on the short irons looks like the Cleveland CG's. I didn't like the inserts in the XCG irons either, and couldn't get by the white insert in the short irons.

I think they should have just stuck with the black insert, and removed everything except the silver "x" in the middle. I think Taylormade did a better job in the looks deparment with their R9's, which have a very similar design.

I'll still hit them when they come out, and they might play great. Just wish they would go with a more no nonsense look like their CNC Forged irons. I'm not a fan of the busy cavity look.

As a follow up to above, here's what i mean.

About 1 minute with Paint and I edited the iron on the right. Just so much more pleasing to my eye.

I have hit the EX-3's. I would classify them as an SGI iron.

The top line is thick, the soles are huge, and overall they have a large head. Think Cally fusion wide sole's.

If you need the help, they are a great iron. Long and straight.

I've actually thought of carrying a couple of EX-3 long irons instead of my hybrids. They probably have as much game improvement as most hybrids. However, the short irons are too chunky to my eye, but that's just my personal preference.

So the Ex-3 would be in the same class as Big bertha's? I really dont eed help getting the ball in the air. I just cant practice anymore I would just like forgivness when I am off. And right now they are goin for under 300.00 which I guess is a good buy.

I would say they're even more SGI than Big Bertha's. These have a large head and very wide soles.

They will launch high. Low COG + high MOI + light shaft = high & long.

Great for the person who needs the help.

When I hit them the flight of the 4 iron looked more like an 8 iron that flew 200+ yards!

Did you ever get a chance to hit the XCG-3 irons? I have had a hard time finding anyone who has actually played them and would love some feedback on how they stack up.
