I beg to differ to the poster who said this wont help or stop it completely. It was my swing thought for quite a while. Basically I (speaking of upper back mind you) told myself to keep my back to the target "as long as possible". This helped GREATLY. It stopped being a swing thought however, when I started hitting HUGE draws .... it's not so much a swing thought anymore .. LOL.

This swing thought is very drastic and probably not for long term use as one can overdo any move after a while,but it is very effective to cure OTT.

You don't really want the upper back facing the target too long otherwise you will have the complete opposite problem of being underplane and you will hit hooks and pushes.Also,the key is to make sure it doesn't affect your hip turn.It sounds weird,but you should be clearing your hips as fast as possible but keeping the shoulder blades facing the target.I am talking feel of course.It does require a measure of flexibility to do this move properly.

IMNSHO, the best advice given in this thread. Fix the Face. The reason people come over the top[i][b] most of the time[/b][/i] is two reasons.

The latter really isn't OTT as much as shifting the plane angle.

I have been having GREAT success studying Shawn Clement's ideas and applying them to my game. He has a drill he calls the perpetual motion drill in which one swings the club back and through over and over. As you do this, you give the club/arm unit up to gravity and the swing plane is automatically established. Once you learn this feeling, he explains what he calls the momentum toss backswing. He instills the feeling of swinging the club back, rather than turning, moving, or manipulating it back. Once the arm/club unit momentum is established in the backswing, one has the opportunity to start the downswing by shifting the weight to the forward leg. The result is a catapult effect which creates lag and in conjunction with the already established swing plane, practically guarantees that the club will approach the ball from the inside, eliminating the OTT move forever.
