Would these clubs be good for me?

Recommended Posts

hi there,

this is my first post, and i am very new to golfwrx. I play to about a 9 handicap, and i am in need of a new set to help improve my game (cavity back cast irons dont do well for me). what do you think of these clubs

Driver: Nike Victory red STR8T fit driver 9.5* stiff shaft

Woods: Nike Victory red STR8T fit 3 and 5 wood

Irons: Mizuno MP-58

Wedges: Mizuno MP T10 54*, 60*

Putter: Nike Method putter

i need most help with my drives as i hit power fades and huge slices, but i am working on it.

my ball striking is slightly above average

My wedge game is great (for your average player)

putting is also one of my strenghts

i really like the mizuno's, and i love the feel they produce, and i love the nike method. but what do you think about the woods?

also, i want to get a tour bag with these clubs, should i get a mizuno or nike tour bag. I would prefer the Mizuno tour bag and just put Mizuno head covers on the woods and putter (i like the look)

any advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Cool setup. I use Mizuno irons and wedges and love them. My advice (and of course this only my opinion), if you are an average ball striker you may want to go with the Mizuno MP-52's. Still sweet forged irons but a little more forgiveness than the 58's. And with the putter, if you're going to spend the money on a whole new set like that, get a Scotty or an Odyssey. They're the best, hands down. Good luck!

Chris,
Besides the obvious get fitted reply...I'd go with whatever club inspires you. The MP-58's did that for me. Just ask yourself: "If I get anything else, will I regret it even remotely?" If the answer is yes...get the 58's.
I can say the same for the rest of your club selection. It sounds like you've already made your mind up, bud. No need to get others to confirm your hopes. Take the plunge, you won't regret it if they are the ones you TRULY want.

Odyssey?? You must be kidding? The real premium putters are Nike Method (as he want), Scotty Cameron and Bettinardi?

I still play with my odyssey black series #3 putter. I gave up the two ball for that putter. there is nothing wrong with odyssey putters.

Your definitely not a "player" if you can't acknowledge that the current number 2 player in the world and possible number 1 plays an odyssey. So way to be ignorant, and way to expose yourself as someone to NOT take advice from.

mizuno headcovers on nike clubs?! No way man...for instance, I just got my titleist staff bag (black, red, white) with taylormade woods. So what did I do? Without hesitation I went to rocket tour (fw woods) and jan craig (driver) to match the bag. You can easily find a match at either one to match the mizuno bags colors.

I don't think Numbers 2, 3, 5, and 8 on the current world golf ranking are kidding with their Odysseys. Not to mention last week's winner Ben Crane. If it doesn't cost $250+ it must not be worthy of your bag? C'mon.

9 handicap with a slice, sounds familiar. I would say no way to 58s and get some hybrids in the mix or your kidding yourself. Having said that go and get fitted and take a lesson to sort out the slice (hummm why havent I done that myself!!!)

I am kinda thinking MX 300, Mp52 A4s, Diablo Forged at that sort of cap if you just cant do cast. Some GI features without heavy toplines/ fatsoles, most mid-sized heads etc.

Though in reality you are probably as well served with AP2, a7, Ci9, R9- even more GI but still with a thinned down look in an oversized head.

ya i actually got to try out the Mizuno MP-68's and i hit them better than my cleveland cg-4's. i went to the Mizuno demo day at my local golf course. I loved everything about Mizuno. I actually tried out all the clubs the guy had, and he said my swing is good enough for blades. My grip screwed me over for slicing ( i only slice on my driver). but i plan on getting these clubs

Mizuno MP-68 4-pw (Maybe an MP-58 4,5 iron)
Mizuno MP-630 fast track driver 9.5*
Mizuno MP CLk 3 hyrbid
Mizuno MP T10 wedges 54*, 60*
Mizuno MP- 3,5 wood

Im still a little "confused" on my putter. I want to try out the Bettinardi putters, but there is not a single store that sells them in my area. i went to Roger Dunns today and did not like the nike putter, but there still is more testing to do. im pretty much set on the clubs above with a Mizuno tour bag with my name and American flag embroidered on it (makes me feel like im on tour). The only problem is, I NEED MONEY, because my parents dont like spending money on things that are "unnecessary" according to my mom. But they said if i come up with the 2k for these clubs i can buy them.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
