is this a good deal

quick question
i currently use the callaway x-12 irons, i've had them for like 5 years, pretty good shape i guess, i golf a lot!

a buddy of mine has the mp-32's, he never golfs, i offered him a trade;

my x-12's and $200 for his mp-32's

he let me hit them today, they feel sweet, but have small faces, no forgivness. they go a tad str8er, like more center or to the left (pull these aloT)

i can find more greens with my x-12's but i'm so used to them. i tend to slice a lot with the x-12's, i had a slice with the mp-32s but it didn't slice much, they made it more of a fade!

distance, i think i may hit the x-12s a tad longer, maybe. but i get a higher troj with the mp-32s

i'm leaning towards this deal because i get a huge step up in technology for pretty much $200 bucks, and i've had my x-12s awhile.

but if i had to get new irons and pay full price i would probally just stick with my old trustees and not spend another $500.

any oppinions?

why don't u go out one day, borrow his 32s, and literrally play them side by side like switch irons sets from hole to hole (switching front and back nine is a bad idea bc u get prepared for the back on the front). practice on the driving range isnt a bad idea either for the feel but think of it this way...if you wanna get better now then u have to (A) adjust to new clubs and then (B) adjust new swing. but on the other hand, these new clubs could be better in the long run. something ive also found is nice is when a club looks good to you and you just swing it well. that may have been a case with ur 12s but now that you've had them so long its tough to keep swinging right! i dunno...hopefully some of my rambling will give u an idea. hope this helps!

Is it a good deal? Well, you are trading your nearly worthless X-12's and $200 for a set of $500+ MP-32's, I.e. you're paying $200 for nearly new MP-32's, I would say clearly its a good deal....So long as you can play the MP-32's. Remember, they pretty much play like a blade. But on the other hand, if you get the MP-32's and don't like them, you can trade them more easily than you could your x-12's. But strictly speaking, you are buying $500 worth of equity for $200, that's solid business.

today i hit each club at the range, my x-12 vs the mp-32. on full contact shots my x-12 edged them out by a couple of yards. also i was more consistent with my x-12's. i'm gonna give these mp-32's every chance in the world to prove themselves to me, because it seems like such a good deal

Which clubs were you testing out side by side? The P in the x-12's are 42* and the MP32's are 47*- the 9i in the MP32's are more similar to the P in the x-12's.

i was testing side by side, 7-10 pitching wedge, first x-12, then 7-10 mp32, i did this all to my 6 iron (the last iron i can hit, after that its hybrid time) every club seem longer for the x-12, but that's weird because longer shafts = longer shots?

o wait, you were a tad off, there is less loft in the callaway clubs .5 to almost 1 degree difference, and the callaway clubs are a tad longer shaft wise. for ex the callaway pw is 46.5 and the mizuno is 47

9i- callaway 42

9i mizuno 43

this explains why i'm longer, i was like shyt i'm hitting them pretty good why the difference. this tells me i was giving each club a good chance, i'm gonna play a round with the mp32s tom, but right now i'm leaning towards my longer x-12s.

also the more loft on the mp-32s explains the higher troj. i thought it was because the cavity back cut muscle thingy? lol they do feel a tad heavier at the head, i have no idea what is so special about cut muscle?

I switched from x-12's to mx-23's a couple of years ago. During the first year I used to

switch back and forth between the two sets until I realized I hit the same good and bad shots

with each set. However the good shots were just a little bit better with the Mizuno's, and the

bad shots were about equal. At that point I sold the x-12's.

I'm still not totally convinced that cast clubs aren't for me - there's something about an ugly,

oversized, clunky-looking, too-offset iron that appeals to me, vs. the look of the neat, clean,

shiny, mx-23's. Sometimes I feel the clubs are just TOO GOOD for my game. But then I hit

one flush and realize why I like them. ;)

You'll probably slice less with the MPs because of less offset. That aside, I can't really see why you'd want to change. Your X-12s are longer, feel better, reward mishits and you hit more greens.

I realise MP32s are seen as cooler, but I just can't see what you are going to gain.

Callaway make irons just as forgiving as your X12s with less offset. I'd try them.
