Hoofer Vantage Droopy Legs

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions?
I'm sure this has been discussed a dozen times on here, but my 2009 hoofer vantage has the droopy leg disease. The left bag leg (the one against my body) hangs down about a foot or so when I'm walking. It's not enough to hit my calves, but it's still annoying. I just spent an hour fiddling with the 2 wire springs: bending them closer together, pulling them further apart, bending up, bending down without any luck. Actually, I probably made it worse.

There is a small plastic clasp that holding the 2 wires together towards the bottom. I don't know if that can be slid up further? When I'm walking, if I apply pressure to the wire springs and push them against the bottom of the bag, the legs retract, so I thought about maybe sewing on a strap to keep the wires closer to the body of the bag, but I don't know it that would work either since the wires need to stick further out from the bag when the stand is engaged.

Anyone have any ideas or had success on solving this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot.

I shot them an email last night while it was on my mind, so I should hear back from them in a few days. I also thought about using a few zip ties right above the clasp to hold to wires tighter.

I have the same problem with mine. I twisted that clasp thing completely around so that the back of it was facing out. That seemed to tighten the legs up quite a bit.

I'm actually thinking of sending mine into PING to see if they can fix it properly however.

Since you twisted the clasp around, that also means you twisted the wires, right? Does that affect the integrity of the stand, or does it still work fine?

Did you try sliding the clasp up? It seems like it's on there pretty good. I Thought about using a hammer and something to tap it further up the wires, but thought I'd hold off on that before checking with someone / PING.

Yes, wires twisted with the clasp. Twisting the wires actually pinches them closer together higher up, which is basically what moving the clasp would accomplish. The stand actually works a helluva lot better since I did that!! I was playing around with it this morning after I made my previous post. Legs retract much better and don't droop like before. I think I'm going to go with it this way for awhile before sending it in to PING. I'm curious to see if the legs will again start to droop over time, but for now I'm pleased.

I tried to slide the clasp up as well but that thing is there to stay. I thought about trying the hammer method  ...but then I figured PING probably wouldn't touch it if I mangled it too bad myself. At least this way I think they would still repair it if I decide to send it back to them.

Give it a shot and let me know what you think :good:

Thanks for the tip. You just twisted it once, right? Or, I should say a 1/2 turn since the back is now in front. I may try a few zip ties above the clasp first to see if that works, but if not, it sounds like you may have found a solution. Thanks again.

Yeah, I just twisted the clasp around so the back of it was facing out (1/2 turn).

I bought this bag last year and had the same problem as well...when carrying the bag the legs would just dangle instead of retracting properly right up against the bag. I brought it back to my local golf store where I bought the bag and they sent it back to PING for me and gave me a spare bag in the meantime while they decided to repair or replace the Hoofer. They decided to replace it and sent a brand new back to the golf shop.

When the new Hoofer arrived from PING to the golf shop I then proceeded to let the golf shop keep the new one from PING and bought a Titleist cart bag.

Problem solved.

That worked out pretty slick for you. I've heard PING is pretty good about their bag warranties and servicing. How far down did you legs dangle?

Yeah, PING was really good about it. They told me they were just going to replace the legs and the mechanism/dowel that supports them and retracts them up when not being used. I asked if they would just send back a brand new bag and they had no problem with that so they sent back a brand new bag. The legs prior to me sending it back would dangle pretty low when I was carrying it on my shoulders, usually to about a 45 degree angle to the ground, which was obviously not per design.

Ok, after about 1/2 hour of tinkering, I came up with a solution to the droopy legs. I took 4 black zip ties and fastened them above the clasp. Essentially, this is like sliding the clasp up about one length. This keeps the wires tighter and thus put more snap to the legs. It reduced my leg droop from a foot to only about 3-4 inches. The only drawback to this is the legs don't kick out quit as far, but it's still fine. I had 5 zip ties on there and it snapped the legs up completely, but when the stand was engaged, the legs did not kick out nearly as much.

I've attached some pictures. Hope this helps someone out there.

For a slightly more permanent fix, the black plastic piece can be moved upwards a couple of inches to tighten the wire stays.

Place something flat like a file against it & give it a couple of hits with a hammer.

The flipside is the legs won't come out quite so far.

The new Latitude V2, Hoofer C-1 & 4-Under have an internal stay which keeps the legs retracted.
