Personal Nationwide Experience

This afternoon at the course I work at, I caddied for Paul Wackerly, a Nationwide Tour rookie, and my buddy carried for Kevin Folk, a Nationwide Tour veteran. They are sponsored by a scratch member at the club, so they had there annual golf match with another scratch member making the fourth.

A little about the course, it's called Congress Lake Club and it's the hidden gem of Northeast Ohio. It's not very long, measuring just under 6,600 yards from the blues, but it's a typical Donald Ross design. Tight, undulating fairways, with smaller front-to-back sloped greens. With four skilled golfers in the group, it was without a doubt the easiest round of the year so far, fairways and greens were hit all day long.

I carried for the sponsor of the two tour players and Paul Wackerly. Wackerly has got some talent! He was bombing drives to places I had never seen in my prior 9 years of caddying at the course, and very skilled short game and putter. He shot a 4 under 67 with bogeys. And of course, I was quick to memorize his bag to inform you all of what he was playing. He told me how he is sponsored by Cleveland Golf, Adams, and Titleist. He said that with Cleveland he had to have their irons, wedges, and driver in the bag. Which were CG4 Tours (4-9), 49* 588 PW, CG11 54 and 58, and a 10.5* HiBore with a Grafalloy ProLaunch RED x-flex. He carried an Adams RPM redline 14.5 with a 6gram weight with a Grafalloy Axis 75 x-flex, 17* and 21* Idea Hybrid with Adilia Prototype Hybrid 95x shafts. Titleist sponsors him with balls, gloves, and shoes. Overall, IMPRESSIVE bag.

I didn't really get the best of looks at Kevin Krafts bag, but I know he had a Taylor Made 425 7.5*, CG1 irons, Nickent hybrids, and a Scotty 009 with dancing Cameron.

Overall the round was fun, the four of them hassling eachother, my buddy and I, watching two high level golfers beat up the home course, and getting compliments such as "good read/club" from tour players. I was most excited at the end of the round though, when Wackerly asked if I would be up for caddying for him in some Nationwide Tour events in the surrounding areas. ;) I was kinda shocked at first because I hadn't thought I did that great of a job and thought he was actually annoyed by me, but I'm hard on myself like that. I hope it works out to where I can carry for him and get to see him grind it out on the Nationwide. Just thought I'd tell ya guys my story and watch for these two on the leaderboards!!

Thanks guys!! I appreciate it! I doubt this will be anything too serious for me, as I've yet to finish my college studies. I'll most likely just carry the local events if so. It'll be a fun experience for sure though!

Paul is an excellent player, I knew him from when he was pro at Edgewater in Minerva. And Congress Lake is a hidden gem, Ben Hogan once said that it was the best members course he had ever seen.
