just some questions

I am a junior in high school. I have not been playing for very long, 2-3 years. Well I am with a teacher and am pretty sure that I will be very good eventually. This guy knows his stuff. I play to a 3 handicap at the moment, but it will be declining as I shot 75 on a 77.8 rated course. I was 1 under through 16 and doubled the last two holes. Ouch.

Anyways so I have potential. When should I look into playing on the AJGA? And how do you do it?
I have played in some tournaments but nothing really big and not many super impressive scores. So not much of a resume. How do I begin playing on the AJGA without much of a resume?

I have no doubt that I will be able to compete anywhere soon. I know I am only a 3 but I am past my "plateau"

Play AJGA if you can get in them..but you don't have to.

Do you play other tours?

Play in the "masters" division. 2 day summer events that get reported to the National Jr Golf Scoreboard (1 day events do not)

as well as

2-day events as well--most in the Spring and Fall, but a few summer.

Future Masters is a big tournament with as much stature as an AJGA event.

I appreciate the input. I have already signed up for my tournaments in the masters divison on tgajuniortour. I'll have to look into that masters tournament.

Future Masters deadline is soon.

Depending on how much you can travel, you should look at the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour. It is a well respected regional tour....Above TGA Masters Division, and USJGT, but below AJGA.

As for the AJGA, you join and apply for the tournaments. As a rising SR (2010-2011) you will 2 extra stars as part of the Perfomance Based System. That will get you close or in some tournaments. You can also play in the qualifier held just before each AJGA event.

If your goal is college golf...you can get there through TGA Jr, USJGT, SJGT, etc...

He pointed out the USJGT. I have played a few of these. Decent competition.

I would also look into playing some AAJGT. These normally have a little better competition.

Both of these tours are spring and fall tournaments for the most part, so it works out well playing a few of those in the Spring. Playing TGA and other tournaments (SJGT, AJGA, if you feel like you are up for it) in the Summer. Then playing a few more AAJGT's and USJGT's in the Fall if you want to, but take school golf into consideration if you play in the Fall.

I agree about AAJGT. It has tournaments in middle Tn, East TN, and North GA.

SJGT seems to always have strong competition all across the board. Where as the USJGT and AAJGT seem to both have a group of good players and a group of just "decent" players in each field.
