Wow! Those are really clean irons. I have a old set of 1978 Wilson Staff Tour blades 1-pw and I have reshafted. They are fun to play, but very demanding. If you don't have at least a decent golf swing those babies will eat you up. I go off and on with mine.

I am a decent iron player, but saying that I have NO plans on taking the butter knife (1 Iron) with me, or the 2 for that matter!

Man oh man those are pretty. Great score, John! They deserve to see the course--often! Buying those irons and not playing them once would be like getting a pretty girl's number then never asking her out.

If keeping them shiny is a big deal for you, you could always make them your "special event" clubs. My uncle has a set of Nike blades he reserves for his trips to courses like St. Andrews and Pebble Beach.

Personally, I feel that playing the clubs will help you build a connection with them. Just walking past my golf bag with my '69 Haigs in it is enough to get my pulse going--i've been known to run out to the yard in the middle of the night to take a few swings when I get the itch. I plan to keep them in the rotation until the chrome is gone and the groves are worn flat.

I'd definitely game them at least once. If you're anything like me, one nice round with them will have you feeling almost compelled to game them again...and again.

I am going to go against the prevailing trend - I say put them up in a nice felt-lined oak case and keep them 100% mint.

There are a whole bunch of player sets out there, but VERY VERY few sets in mint condition (even re-chromed).

Part of the allure of these is that they have not been hit, and they are begging to be hit. There is tremendous "I want to play these" value in them in their current condition.

P.S. - I may have the dual wedge if you need one for re-chroming. I will look in my bag at home.

The orginal '58 sand wedge is one of the most valuable Wilson Staff clubs, as you likely know.

I like your thinkin'!
Like I mentioned, I have plenty of classic iron sets to play with.. I think I am leaning towards keeping them unplayed.
Thanks for the offer on the Dual Wedge.. I actually have it.. I also have the Triple Duty wedge will be heading off to the Iron Factory shortly..
Thanks for the thoughts!

The ole " Too pretty to play " dilemma. Been there myself. Agree with persimmonpal. If they had the original
shafts and grips and were in that condition without refinish I would tend to put them on display. Of course you would then keep looking at them and thinking I wonder how these beauties would play. Then again how many times have
we all been disappointed by clubs that did not play as good as they looked. Play em.

I would also play them. I don't know why, but the older Wilson forgings have the look and feel that I seek in an iron. The dyna-powered, fluid feels, button backs, bulletbacks, all the various staff models, and the fg staffs, all fantastic irons. The new shafts will just make them that much more playable. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I think the group has it right that the rechroming etc has eliminated the collector value. As you know the lofts are much weaker in the old sets so depending on what you decide to carry for clubs, you may be at a competive disadvanatge unless you adjust for that. Now the following is just my personal opinion--S 300s are not a great shaft and these irons derserve better. In one of my Wilson 67 sets, I have Older Apex 4 and they have a great feel. I think KB Tours also would be awesome in them.
