What is the worst injury you have suffered on a golf course?

I have been hit in the head with a ball but it was a shank so it didn't hurt too bad.

my good friend tore a tendon in his wrist after hitting out of ivy in a tournament.

I've been lucky to have no serious injuries in life. A few stitches as a kid, but thats it.

 

Speaking of DM and ankles, he's got a nasty scar on his from another golf cart accident - but I'll let him tell the story.

Fell down a hole some years ago and damagd ankle ligaments and was on crutches for a while.

I blew out my knee a few years ago after my front foot slipped (playing in a light rain) during my downswing of a drive. Fortunately, I didn't tear anything, but it still took a couple months of rehab to recover. Not to mention the time it took to get over the thought of it going out again during my swing...

Twisted my knee walking down a side slope after a gentle rain, also recieved a knock on my head when my partner took a practice swing and hit me in the back swing. Of course he said it was my fault. Early years I did twist a knee when my "metal" spikes got caught.

Easy, I've done it too but thankfully didn't hurt myself. All that happens is when you post up on your front foot the torque created from twisting on it plus wet grass equals lots of slipping. For an extreme example, imagine swinging on wood floors with socks on. No traction at all.

Simp, I guess you don't transfer weight correctly. Your left knee should feel alot of torque which causes the left foot to give a little, turning out. All the great players have this little action. Ernie Els...etc.

I'm not buying that one! Name one instance where Ernies, Tigers, Roccos (or anyones for that matter)front foot has slipped during their downswing. You'll see their back foot slide out under wet conditions causing them to hook the ball (remember Rocco at the Masters last year?) but not their front foot. Maybe you're the one that's doing something wrong. Simp

Twisted ankle stepping in a hole while in the rough on a crappy course. Lesson learned: don't play at crappy course anymore or at least stay out of the rough.

Hit a ball into the rough on an Eastern Oregon course. While walking into high stuff, I stepped on a bull snake, who bit me on the calf. That was not the problem however. When the snake hissed, and struck, I jumped to get away, and stepped in a hole, cracked a bone in my ankle. 6 weeks in cast gave me plenty of time to work on my short game, and putting. Patch

this doesn't even compare to the other postings...but I was walking across the green with my putter under my left arm, taking off my glove when an errant golf ball from the adjacent course struck my left elbow on the fly...my reaction to which, thrust the heel of my putter into my front left tooth, turning the corner of it into tooth-dust.

 

sure, the elbow swelled a bit...but also, contrary to popular opinion, tooth dust does not taste good. Ultimately, I had to have both front teeth ground down so I wouldn't look like a redneck. apparently that's also the corner of my tooth I used to use when biting my fingernails, so the tooth was pre-weakened. I no longer bit my fingernails...and I'm a bit more cautious when take my glove off.

I've been hit a few times, twice in the head. The most recent was last summer when my partner was coming out of a bunker as I was knelt down fixing a ball-mark. He yelled "heads up!" to which I looked up and caught it right above my ear. Just glad I hadn't turned more. Hit me hard enough to ricochet 30 yards to the other side of the green. Rang my bell pretty good, but I kept playing.

 

We had a horrible situation happen locally here last year. I didn't know the parties involved, but read about it in the paper. Evidently, a marshall at a local course drove up on a group in which his son was playing. The son was teeing off at the time, hit an errant shot which hit his father in the head, and killed him. It happened in Arlington, TX at a municiple course. By far the worst golf story I've ever heard.

This past weekend, the ball I tried hitting out of the trees hit me right above the upper lip. The clubface opened as it hit the rough and the ball went to the right, straight for a tree 1 yd away and bounced straight back at me...2 quarter inch cuts on the skin right above upper lip.

 

Was pretty bloody.

 

Now I have 5 stiches...thank god that the tooth was ok and it didn't hit the eye....for a while, I looked like Brit Hume with a swollen upper lip...

I was on the 10th hole at my home course and on the right side chipping on the green after i hit the shot i made a quick move up there hill to see the result and POP there went my hamstring. Couldnt play for 4 weeks.

Picked up my golf bag and ruptured my rotator cuff. Haven't been the same since and it's been 9 years since it was surgically repaired. At least I can still play, even if I'm shorter because of it.

I've been hit 5 times on the course, but none compare to May 13th when I tore my Achille's Tendon.

Wet day, I took a huge divot on a wedge shot, and my whole bare eye got covered in mud, couldn't see or even blink the eye. So I took my squirting water bottle and just dowsed my eye with 16 fl oz of water. Had to go home and clean the rest out after I finished my round of course!

Well I was hit by a golf cart while in my back swig by my own playing partner. He broke 3 of my ribs and tore some muscle (lets see if icanputt will chimm in and add to the story). :friends:

I haven't had any bad injuries on the golf course, and I hope I never do, but I have dished out a couple (both due to playing partners walking ahead).
