Looking for golf courses Woodbury Outlets / Central Valley NY

I'm going with the wife to Woodbury Outlet in Central Valley NY over Memorial Day weekend for whatelse...shopping!!!.

 

Since the outlets don't open until 10 AM, I was looking to play around before heading out. Not sure how much $$ is golf around that area but trying to keep it under $100. I'm a 14 handicap and just looking for a challenging course.

 

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

HAH, you're screwed. I was at Woodbury last weekend with the wife and they are having a ton of sales. Poor wallet.

As for golf courses in the area, where are you dirving from?

A buddy of mine plays mansion ridge a bunch. Says it's real nice but kinda pricey on weekends. 15 minute drive from the outlets.

I live about 20 min from the woodbury outlest in Jersey.

I played Mansion Ridge the 1st weekend it was open this year at a greatly discounted rate. IMO Mansion Ridge is not worth the 100+ they get for peak times (we are now in the peak time price)

I played Falkirk Golf Club the last 4 weekends. Price is $53 w/ cart. the course is very hilly and i rec getting the cart. It changed ownership about a year ago and the place is 100% better now then it was before the new owners. They are putting alot of money into the place and it really shows. IMO this is the place you should play. Has some very challenging holes and some easy holes. For the price on a weekend really cant beat it.

stay away from Mansion Ridge...not worth the $$$$. Better off driving an extra 20 min to Wild Turkey or Ballyowen... If you are coming from NYC, Long Island or NJ....Spook Rock is on the way or Patriott Hills

I have not played Ballyowen yet but i have played the other 3. If i had to rank them i would do as follows:

1. Wild Turkey- Great views and had a blast playing the course. not cheap but fantastic course.
2. Patriot Hills- The hills in the name say it all, elevated tee boxes hitting into a valley up to a green. Nice course is expensive though.
3. Spook Rock- IMO not in the same league as these other courses. $85 and no pace of play at all. Not in the best of shape. Good layout but too pricey for out of state/town (understandable being a town course) though.

Ballyowen is great, but is often well over $100 on the weekend, and not that close to Woodbury Commons.

Yup, my home course. Love it, but the only way your getting to Bally from the Outlets in 20 minutes is if Donald Trump swings by to get you in his helicoptor. I live right in the middle of the 2, and I'd say more like 40+minutes.

Patriot Hills is about 20-25 minutes South (of Woodbury Commons) right off Palisades Parkway, and a bit cheaper than Ballyowen.

Don't, ever, ever play Central Valley. A mediocre track at best with some of the WORST pro shop and grill room service ever. No driving range either. Avoid at all costs...

when is the last time you were there?

i would agree with you if you are talking about last year and prior to that. the pro shop, grill room and banquet facility were redone over the winter and it looks much much better. As for the driving range, its in the works. course is playing much better then in previous years.
