My sticks and a putting green

Gentlemen,

Had elbow surgery two weeks ago so I've got plenty of downtime on my hands. This set is relatively new but I managed to cram in a bunch of rounds prior to my surgery. Love most of the bag but the Adams 19* may be on the chopping block when I return.
I play off a scratch handicap and everything in my bag is off-the-rack stock. I've only had 5 rounds with the TM Superfast TP but LOVE what I saw in those rounds. I may start tinkering with different shafts in the TE CB2 when I get back to playing in a few months.

Thanks! I won't lie—that putting green is my sanctuary! Soooo cool to be able to walk out back and chip and putt anytime you feel like. Best money I've ever spent!

Well, the putting green came about in a strange way. Like I said in the original post, I just had elbow surgery. However, this is my FOURTH elbow surgery in the last 2 1/2 years. Originally, my elbow was broken in January '08. That led to some time off work which actually saved me money because I wasn't spending on golf, motocross, etc. Plus, I was bored.
So there I am standing in my driveway when a guy in a truck pulls up to my neighbor's house with "Backyard Golf" painted on the side of the truck. So I mosey on over there and we start talking. I tell him I had been thinking of doing it for some time, he tells me he'll give me a good deal. I showed him what I was thinking and he said he could do it. So then I mention it to the wife (and this is key here, boys), and she's on board! Bada boom, bada bing, got myself a putting green! Not only that, but she encourages me to go bigger since we're spending the money anyhow.
So the green is about 480 sqft and cost $5000 which included demo and disposal. There are 6 holes and a small shelf in the corner to practice putting up a slope. There are numerous straight putts and curling ones as well. Putting the length of the green will give you a 28' putt. Runs between 9.5 and 10.5 on the stimp. Dry, non-humid days it runs noticeably faster. The green is surprisingly receptive to chips and pitches and even 20 yard pitches with ample spin will hold and not damage the putting surface at all.
I had him run it between the two big trees you see in the pic- this has been a blessing and a curse. What sucks is I have to sweep it frequently due to small twigs, leaves, and berries that drop onto the green. The blessing though is that the green is pretty much always in the shade so I'm able to stay cool while I miss those three footers. If you're a golf nut and have been considering getting one, I can't endorse it enough. They are awesome. Other than sweeping the debris from the trees, it is basically maintenance free.

Nice green! I would hate to look at that setup for several months while I'm waiting for an arm to heal! Make sure you rehab it well, so that you can come back strong!

LOL...you were done when you saw the sign on the truck...I probably would be as well.

That green is awesome. I would love to put one in, but it may be a few summers away.


Also what do the signs next to the green say...No carts?

Love the setup and the putting green. I've been thinking about getting a Raylor. What do you primarily use it for? That is to say, does it work well from the fairway or strictly the rough?

The Raylor has turned out to be way better than I thought it would. I only use it out of the rough. In that regard, it kind of sucks because you're taking up a spot in your bag for what amounts to, on average, one shot per round. But it definitely performs as advertised. Soooooo easy to hit out of the rough. Easier than anything from a 7 iron on up. Due to my elbow issues, I rarely hit balls at the range so I've never tried to come to grips with it off the fairway or the tee.

Haha that's awesome - your very own putting green on the backyard! I especially like the small signs Unfortunately I don't have a backyard, but I suppose I could order a truck of sand to create a bunker in the parking lot in front of my house
