ive noticed this when he played against tiger on many occasions, but he just gave the us open away! we all know tiger with a lead can close the deal no matter what, even if someone catches him, he'll own in the playoff holes. but can phil close the deal on a close match? do you think its stamnia or mental? i know hes a great golfer but what happens the last couple holes. i know personally i get a tad tired, but i'm looser.

we all know you dont like Phil so dont hide it..

anyways Phil can close the deal.. and has plenty of times. His record is much better actually in the front then he is coming from behind...yes Eldrick's record is much better out front as well.

We all know that Lefty can close the deal. However, what I saw yesterday was a golfer pressing too much and the "Old Phil" came out. He forgot himself and blew it. He'll recover and win more, but this one HAS to be a tough one.

i dont necessarily hate phil, i hate the fact that tiger loses his dad, and now all of a sudden "tiger can't compete anymore" and it now phil this phil that! i didn't give him the choke artist nickname, he gave himself that years ago. and as the above poster said "the old phil" well is he back? is the old phil back? i don't hate anyone, and i dont have a favorite golfer, i enjoy watching golf, PERIOD. I hate the fact that golf is run in spurts and those that paved the way are forgotten and dismissed. ( I'm not saying tiger paved any ways, other than making golf more favorably welcome among sports junkies and popular among the masses). But we all know if phil had won, everyone would be like TIGER WHO?

for me I wish Eldrick was in the field...you would have not seen the "old Phil"... he (phil) under estimated everyone in my opinion and maybe over-estimated his own game. It was still a hell of a round despite hitting 2 fairways.. he could have shot 82 easily.

Whether you like Phil or not the reality is he made a really poor decision on the last.

The thing that gets me is all the "Phil lost the US Open", if you havn't got something you can't lose it. It's like saying this morning I lost a million dollars because my lottery ticket did not win.

Ogilvy won. he had a lower score when all the play was complete.

I hate this corporate phrase, but I'm going to say it any way. "At the end of the day", it boiled down to who would weather Winged Foot and who would not.

I'm not Phil's biggest fan (I'm not a fan period), but I seriously thought he was going to win the whole thing. He seemed to have had all his ducks in a row, had taken the time to study the course immensely and, despite not hitting fairways, was managing to get up and down in great fashion. His bubblehead move at the final hole just showed, IMHO, that he wanted it too much. He wanted to win and he wanted to win big. His ego got in the way, and the old Phil reared it's ugly head. Despite Rick's teaching and his own decision to play smart, he decided to wow the crowd. His left brain probably did think, "Don't use driver", but his right brain took over and thought, "This is mine...I got this." And when his tee shot when shooting off to the left, his whole brain screamed, "YOU IDIOT!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING???" After that the right took over again and cost him the Championship. Right brain thinking and adrenaline pumping will get you in trouble every time. JMHO, though.

Geoff did a great job just keeping his head, staying calm and getting the job done. That's why he was standing in the winner's circle in the end.
