TaylorMade TP Badge "dots"

I have seen some of this talk about TaylorMade Japan irons needed 3 dots in the TP Badge to signify authenticity, yet I see pictures on TaylorMade Japan and TourSpec of irons with and without the dots. The particular set I am concerned about is the r7 Forged (07 release in Japan, 08 release in Asia and Korea under Tour Burner name).

 

 

 

 

 

 

I have searched alot of forums and the web and contacted an close contact from TaylorMade and am starting to think that the dots may signify something other than authenticity. The Taylormade guy told me that something small like that could be a line change meaning that early sets had dots and late sets did not or vice versa or that it signifies a different set up (grooves, offset, etc). He said that most counterfits either have a line under the 6 iron when there shouldnt be for some sets, or the TP logo or badge is the incorrect size or color and also grips (said counterfit grips smell like gasoline).

 

I found this forum on here when the irons were just getting released, and on post #28, there seem to be no dots on the new set of irons.

If you could share your thoughts on this and hopefully someone has a complete answer for me.

I have some of these and there are no dots on mine (I'm trying to sell them actually ) and they are authentic (got them form tour spec)

Thank you for the reply, that is exactly what I was looking for, I knew the dots had to stand for something else. The fact that you got them from Tour Spec and they do not have dots makes me 100% confident mine are authentic as well.

The dots are in the recessed "T" in Taylormade that runs down the hosel. There are three different locations for the dot around the T.
Nothing in the tp badge.

There was much confusion with the 2008 TP Forged release as some are .355 and some are .370 hosels. Both are, or can be authentic.

Uncertain about the 2007 release. With the 2009 release and later, they were all .355.

thanks for the info 18th, at this point it almost seems like a coin toss to whether or not sets are authentic because there is not a definite feature that sets the apart, so I guess the milling and forging will have to be the key.
