Leupold range finder

Has anybody had any experience with these range finders? I almost bought the new one yesterday. The guy at the store said they are better than the Bushnell. My friend says they make the best rifle scopes so it would make sense that they would do well in range finders. I currently have a 1500 and it has been great though. No complaints at all.

 

What I like about it is that it has two different faces so if you put the right one on, it can be tournament legal but the other one measures slope. So it is a two in one deal. It also has a feature that takes into account heat and altitude. That might be a little too much for me though.

 

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Be careful with those devices that CAN measure slope and other things. The Golf Assoc of Michigan makes ANY device that CAN measure things other than distance illegal, whether or not they can or can't be turned off.

I'm not sure how anything can beat my Bushnell V2 Tour. It's accurate to within +/- 1 yard, and homes in on the pin from 300 yards in less than 2 seconds.

I am going to check with the USGA, but the guy in the store told me as long as you have the correct face on, it is tournament legal.

You can't use it if it measures slope, even if that function is turned off. If you plan on playing tournaments get one that does not measure slope.

I have the Bushnell 1500TE, never had any problems getting good yardages.

I have a leupold GX4 on order, not tournament legal, even with the cover on.

I bought the gx2 yesterday and have been playing around with it in the back yard. Its really simple to use and you can figure out the settings in about 5 mins. No course time yet so can't give a full review. You have to manually enter temp and altitude, it would be cool if it could figure that stuff out on its own.

I've had the GX-1, GX-2, GX-3, (GX-4 is on the way) and the Bushnell 1600 and Tour V2.

I love the GX-3 the best. It is so easy to see and bright, I love the polarized lenses. The GX-4 is the same only offers slope face plate.

With that said, if you have a bushnell 1500 or 1600 the only reason to upgrade would be for space savings. All the Leupolds are better than the Tour V2 I had. I can pick up the pin faster and more accurately with my Leupolds than the Tour V2, but the 1500 or 1600 is equal to the Leupolds in optics and accuracy, just big size difference.

Can you use it for slope only like the Bushnell? In other words, will it just show the actual distance and the slope?

I use the Bushnell V2 and it is great..... I do not think you can go wrong with it.

i have had both the bushnell and the leupold and i found the leuplod better only because of the size.

When I was at the PGA Show, I know they had applied to the USGA to have the device considered tournament legal when the correct "Cap" was on it. Do you know if they were denied, or are they still waiting for a ruling? And if they were denied, what is the point in paying more for it? Just get a cheaper non-sanctioned rangefinder with slope, or a cheaper sanctioned rangefinder without slope.

EDIT: omg. I was looking for the answer and on the front page of the Leupold website is a flash animation with the quote "I sold my Bushnell and I now use Leupold exclusively." And the provider of the quote is a website owner whose site is sponsored (exclusively I believe) by Leupold. wow. just wow.

I don't think you can beat Bushnell rangefinders. The pinseeker is an invaluable tool. I've tried my friends Callaway ones and I just can't get the right yardage...no pinseeker.

The OLED display on the GX 3 & 4 is the difference to me. I have the GX-4 and have found it simple to use, accurate (no fog mode on clear days) and extremely solid feeling while lightweight to carry (I'm a walker). I used the 1600 Bushnells and love the functionality, just disliked the size and lack of contrast of the graphics at times. You can't really go wrong between these products.
