...any good courses in the area?

Hi guys. I'm travelling to Atlanta and staying in the downtown area (Marriott Marquis) and probably don't see myself travelling more than half an hour to a golf course. Are there any course around the area? I know there are, but wanted to know from members here.

I'm looking to play a course around the twilight hours with my daughter within or around the downtown area. I don't mind travelling a half an hour or so. Rates have to be reasonable. They can't be $70+ on weekdays.

Check Wolf Creek. Neat track and usually a good price. It is down by the airport so if traffic isn't bad then it would be within your half-hour drive.

I would agree that Wolf Creek is the best public track close to town. Do yourself a favor and play the Charlie Yates course at East LAke. It is a shorter executive length course but every hole is good and the greens are as good as any championship course and 15 minutes from town. If you want to play in the afternoon in Atlanta and you are leaving from downtown, you have no chance because all of the decent courses are north (Alpharetta/ Marietta) or south of the city and traffic is a nightmare. Decent places to look into are Woodmont, Cherokee Run, Stone Mountain (slow greens), The Frog, St. Marlo. DO NOT PLAY Bobby Jones or North Fulton if you have any pride.

Hehe. What's wrong with the Bobby Jones course? That was one of the courses I planned on playing. I figured with the name of the golf course, you can't beat it.

 

Also, how far is Alpharetta/Marietta from the Georgia Dome/Omni Hotel area? Thanks. Golf in Atlanta should be fun.

40 minutes with minimal traffic...If you are heaginf north...check out Olde Atlanta, Birch River, and Bears Best (last two are nicklaus courses) There is Laural Springs which is one of the best Nicklaus courses in the area but that is private. But my personal favorite is Emerald Pointe at Lake Lanier Islands its probably an hour north of the city, but lots of water (on lake lanier) and a real fun layout with lots of carry over water, 3 drivable par 4's (two with all water carry).
