Pittsburgh area courses - Need help

Hey fellas.

I'm playing OAKMONT in early October and have another free day to play a round elsewhere. Any suggestions on other top courses in the Pittsburgh area?????

I played this one years back after if had just opened. Not too far from Oakmont, and worth getting to it if you can!

If you have a FREE ticket to any good course in Western Pa i believe the next best choice would be Laurel Valley in Ligonier Pa, other privates in the direct Pittsburgh area might include Diamond Run, The Pittsburgh Field club, St. Clair ,CC Edgewood CC those are only a few as there is a lot of very good tracks in the Greater Pittsburgh area

If you don't mind driving an hour or so, go play Mystic Rock at Nemacolin Woodlands. Pete Dye design and is a monster of a track. The 84 lumber classic was there for a while. You won't be disappointed. After that (assuming you are looking public) take a look at Toms Run, Totterridge, Birdsfoot, or Olde Stonewall.

Mystic Rock and Olde Stonewall are definitely the best courses not named Oakmont in that area.

Public- Cranberry Highlands, Old Stonewall, Totterridge
Private-Laurel Valley, Fox Chapel

Too bad Oakmont is in such dire condition......I heard the possibility of up to 4 temp greens.

I got the chance to play Oakmont earlier this year, June 18th, and on the way back towards Harrisburg we made two stops to play Mystic and Bedford. I've played quite a few of the courses mentioned here and while Laurel Valley is a great private track, as well as Olde Stonewall and TotterRidge being great public courses, I'd drive the ~50 minutes to Mystic Rock and get kicked in the face before playing any of the others with no question. Leave your pride home, or bring it and watch it get humiliated. I shot a better score at Bethpage 3 weeks before the Open last year than I shot at Mystic Rock earlier this year.
