Vokey Spin Milled Question?

Bending a 54 to 52.

I love my 56* and 60* Vokey Spin Milled. Would love to have a 52* spin milled. Has anyone had a 54* spin milled bent to 52*? Would like to hear your thoughts or reviews. Thanks,

ive never personally tried it but obviously you would dramatically be reducing the bounce of the club, which, actually may not be a huge deal because its going to be a lower lofted club now, but i do know that vokey's perform best under the standard bounces, it just reacts much better with the turf and ball and the bounce is truly an integral part of the vokeys performance...hope that helps though

For every 1° you decrease the loft, you'll also decrease the bounce by 1°....and vice versa. Current 54° Vokey SM's have either 10° or 14° of bounce so ultimately you're looking at a 52.08 or 52.12.

I took a SM 54/10 and had it bent 2* and it became a 52/08 which is the loft and bounce i prefer in my gap.

 

I liked it alot, i keep in in Arizona with the hard greens and fairways, it comes in handy.

One thing you've got to think about is generating too much spin on the full shots and balloning/losing control of the ball as it hits the green.

I've actually done that to my 54*. Makes the 54/10 to 52/8. Haven't had a problem digging. Not a high spin player so I don't see a big deal on spinning too much on full shots. Don't have but a couple of rounds on it so I'll hold final opinions...

I've bent a 58.08 to 60.10 and will be bending a 56.10 to 54.08. Both SMs. No issues.

you wont have any problem bending it but I would definately think twice about it. I have a 60 bent to a 59 and a 56 bent to a 55. Sometimes I think that the 56 spins too much for the 100 yd shot that I use it for. I have a 52 vokey bent to 51 and there are times that I want to go after hit to get those extra couple of yds. The reg Vokey spins alot and there is no way I could have spin milled grooves on that thing. Of course that is just my opinion but I think you are going to have an iron that will be very hard to control overall distance with. Going after a back of the green pin position with a hard swing may be very interesting. Just my opinion of course.

I had a TM TP Y-cutter 52º. Too much spin for full shots. Tended to balloon on me, and if it did reach the green, it would spin right off. I think there is definitely a reason they don't make a SM in 52º.

Also, I think the shaft is slightly longer on most 52's.

I agree strongly with the last two posts. A Spin Milled lob wedge at 60 degrees, or a Spin Milled sand wedge at 58 or 56 degrees is a nice thing, but those grooves on full shots from 100-120 yards with a 52-degree wedge might no be so good. I wouldn't want square grooves on my 52-degree Vokey. Square grooves are wonderful for half-shots. Not good, in my opinion, on full shots, except on very rare occasions.

I agree 100% with the fact that the 54 sm bent to 52 will really spin on full shots. I am really looking for a club that will have a tremendous amt of spin. One of the leagues I play in is at an executive course that 6 of the 18 par threes are in between 120-129 yards (my gap wedge distance) and the greens are usually very hard and tough to hold. Even full shots with my 56 sm just stop and do not spin back.

Y would you want a 52 SM I mean you dont really need that much MORE spin pn a club, that your hitting furthur, more spin AND hitting it harder would be rather ridiculous yes? I have a 52 200 series and a 56 SM was going to bend a 54 myself, but just didnt need THAT much spin. Unecceasry IMO
