short iron problems

Hi, with a driver, i usually hit fairly straight draw and with 3 to 7 irons, usually make solid contact in the middle but have tendencyto push right. from 8 - S, i tend to push the ball and sometimes hit the toe of the club.

 

i know i have in and out swing and i tend to lower my head and start with my legs on downswing. i was wondering what exactly i can do to fix these problems.

try setting up with your lead foot way behind you and your back foot on the target line, almost like you are getting ready to sprint, and make some swings. You will find it is very hard to swing in to out and will start swinging inside-square-inside. You want your divots to be square to slightly left of the target

Check how far you are from the ball- I had a similar problem last fall and it turned out that I was a little too close to the ball and forced my normal swing into a very upright one with a shut clubface- which in turn became an almost stuck down swing with my hands hold off the clubface to avoid a pull hook.

 

If that's not it- another thing I did was kind of the opposite of what ferris mentioned. I pulled my back foot back (right foot) and tried to swing around my left side and hit the ball left- with the right foot back your swing will go inside and trying to hit the ball left forces you to swing back inside.
