Skins game today with bogus rulings against me

Me and 2 buddies were playing a skins game (for golf balls, not money), and I'd like to hear opinions on some of these rulings.

2nd hole: I hit a driver off the tee, and with a driver, I like to use a brush tee (the XLT one) because I like the constant height. After I hit my shot, as it was in the air, they said I'm disqualified for using a brush tee. I've heard several rulings about these things, and every one has finished the same; they are comforming. That was the most ridiculous ruling I've ever had against me. They didn't warn me or anything, they just said I'm disqualified. As we were walking into the fairway, I negociated a 2 stroke penalty because there were 2 of them and 1 of me and they were being real morons so we agreed on that. So after making par (double bogey with the bullcrap penalty), we walked off the green still arguing about the ruling. I just forgot about it and moved on.

3rd hole: Right after that Brush tee incident, they called ANOTHER bullcrap penalty. They said I have 15 clubs in the bag because I was carrying a ball retriever. Even though that's not a club, they called it one and guess what? Another 2 stroke penalty. I tried saying that's not a club, and even said that he should get one too because he was carrying an umbrella, but again, 2 against 1 and I ended up with a triple bogey (which was actually just a bogey without the 2nd bullcrap penalty.)

6th hole: I had a putt to win the hole (carry over form 4 and 5 as well). It was a putt for par from about 8 feet or so. They were both in with bogey or worse, and I needed this putt to win the hole. As I was lining it up, 1 of them was standing about 2 feet behind the hole. I asked him to move, but he refused and said that he's not in my line so he should have to. At this point, I'm just ready to just shove him right to the ground. I ended up missing the putt and made bogey. The son of a b**** won the next hole too.

This entire time I'm just thinking they're trying to sabotage my round so I wouldn't win (since if we play a normal round, more often than not, I'll be the low man).

9th hole: There was a carry over from the 8th, and I was down 4 balls, but if I won the 9th hole (our last hole), we'd be all even. 1 guy tapped in for par. The next guy had a tap in par and missed it by a mile on purpose just so the other guy would win and not me. Thank god I made my putt and forced a playoff hole to determine the final.

On the 2nd playoff hole, I won the hole with a par (tough par 4) and I ended up even in the skins game. I can't help but think if they didn't sabotage my round, I would have about a dozen more golf balls.

What do you think of some of these rulings/decisions?

A. No. Umbrellas and ball retrievers are not golf clubs as described in Appendix II. Thus, they are not counted as part of the player's 14 clubs for the purposes of applying Rule 4-4.

PRUITT: Bill, I guess the professionals are not seeing the big advantage of using the brush tee. You better believe that if they thought it would help they would be using them.

you should not play with them again if they are going to call bogus things like that on you. none of those rulings against you were right and they are just poor sports who have to cheat to win. if it were me I would just not play with them anymore because they are cheaters.

Unfortuneately I don't like playing like that, but there aren't many junior members at my course and since I find it kind of boring playing alone, I play with them. Usually they're good guys, but I guess when there's a prize at stake, they change.

 

Can I ask why you side with them on the ball retriever? Read the first post.

Why? Above this there is a rule that clearly states that a ball retriever is not a club.

Do you consider these people "friends"? I would not put up with people like that in my life, I would rather play as a single. In the future, if it is a casual round, I think you can consider playing with them again, but would never bet with them again, period. Golf really tells you a lot about the person you're playing with, doesn't it?

ALWAYS have the Rules of Golf in your bag for incidents like this...if you don't have one, get one and show them the ruling. Also, DON'T EVER PLAY WITH THESE JERK-OFFS AGAIN :cheesy:

dont play with them until they read the rulebook... and you need to read it as well because you should have known you were in the right !

Why don't you put a rulesbook in your bag? So next time you can take a look in the rules when you're arguing over some rules.

 

I'll play with them next time. A great mental practice in case you've to play against such player in a real match. :cheesy:
