Hey everyone ... looking for some thoughts on places to play for a foursome in the Palm Desert / Springs / La Quinta area in January.

4 of us from Calgary have been taking an annual trip down to PD and have played exclusively at Desert Willow, the course has really treated us well every year but we are looking for a change.

Ideally if we could get a rate cut by calling the course ahead of time and putting a deposit down, we'd prefer that.

Any ideas on courses in the area that have multiple 18's and would be comparable to Desert Willow? Any one an employee / member that could get us a deal?

Just came back from my first Palm Desert outing. I played 106 holes in 4 days. Oddly enough, the average temperature was about 106 too. As I expected it to be hot, I was mentaly prepared and I was able to deal with it. My group (44 guys) paid $430 for 3 nights stay in La Quinta and unlimited golf. We played The Mountain course, The Staduim Course, and the Nicklaus Course. Add $90 for round trip from N. Calif and we were all pretty happy with what we payed.

That being said, I would like to add this additional observation...I'm a lower middle income guy ($56,000/year). Therefore I dont often play upscale golf facilities/resorts. This was a treat as was the opportunity to play Spyglass last month (comped round). Spyglass green fees the day I played would have been $350 and PGA West in Palm Desert I've already stated the cost. While it is fun experience facilities like these, I often play quality local courses for 1/10 the cost. These courses may not have the prestige of Spyglass or PGA West, they are still kept in fine condition.

Ten rounds for the price of 1? Of course, thats just my opinion.

Indian Wells Golf Resort is probably the main competitor to Desert Willow. Both the Celebrity and Players courses are spectacular, although I prefer the Celebrity. I have also played both Desert Willow courses and while they are fantastic, I give a slight edge to the Indian Wells Golf Resort, partially because they have a few hotel options that are walking distance from the course.

There is also the Marriot Desert Springs courses, but I don't think they can compete with the oens above. Westin Mission Hills also has some options, I did the Gary Player course, which was pretty good.

Highly recommend the all inclusive package at La Quinta.

Thanks for the ideas! We actually have a place to stay in PD already since one of our foursome owns a house down there. Lucky us.
