Stay up high, as they drain down...Royal Kunia, Pearl CC. All the others will be swamps.

I would say you're just SOL until we get some sun. From my experience playing RK weekly for the past couple of years, they don't do to well with the big rains. Just the rain we had two weeks ago washed out many of the bunkers. They got them back to playable in a week but that rain was nowhere near what we got on Sunday. Even then, some of the fairways and edges of the greens were still very mushy. From my experience working at Pearl, I can just imagine how bad it got on the 5th, 6th and 7th holes. I'm wondering if the greens were even above water! As it is, just the slightest rains there cause them to put the carts only on the paths.

Here are two pics da master posted on his Facebook of Klipper on Sunday. You can put your money down that this place will definitely need about four days of solid sun to dry it up.

Overview of the course...

1st Hole..if you look close, the far away "island" is the green. :cheesy:

Holy Cow! That's freaking crazy. I have never seen flooding like that before on a golf course. I was going to be a wise guy with a response of "try another island" but that's no joke. Hope you guys dry out and get some sun!

Looks like my basement from tuesday morning when my dad broke the water filter for the second time in the last 4 months!

Those two are easily the most wet courses on Oahu during the winter months. They're both located at the base of the Koolau mountain range. Due to that, the wind hitting the range usually causes rain at the base of the mountain. Even when it's not winter, Luana and Koolau are very susceptible to rain.

armydiver..congrats on finding Navy Marine. I was thinking Barbers Point might be good due to the location and sand based ground.

We've had sun for almost two full days on Oahu now. Hopefully the course will be dry for my Christmas day round. ;)

I could never imagine playing golf on Christmas. What a treat! I've played on easter and other holidays but never Christmas. Not here in the Northeast. Sounds like Hawaii is where I need to be!

But then I can't snowboard.

I used to be part of a group that played Pearl Country Club early morning on New Years Day. This was years ago when the course was closed. Not sure if it still is but what they used to do was have one guy go there and get some carts out for two groups. There would be no snack bar or marshalls or any other employee's. Just golf on an empty course and then we'd go to one of the guy's house later for lunch. Helluva way to start the year!

If you guys only had 2 opportunities to play, what 2 courses would be the most fun, challenging and scenic?

If I had to choose between Koolau and Luana Hills...I'd take Koolau every time. I like the course better and although condition is not nearly as great as it was when it first opened, I think it's still better then Luana. For the 2nd choice..there's always the Palmer Course and Ko'Olina. At least those two have hosted professional tournaments and are open to the public on Oahu.

FYI...got a late round in, today, at Pearl. Dry as could be. Not a speck of mud on the spikes.

Amazing. Then again it was hot as hell today. I was missing the rain! :D

Hey guys - I'm now in Waikiki and trying to decide on where to play. Played Ko'Olina today and it was nice. Have heard so conflicting stories about Luana Hills. Once was great but now the only thing there is a guy taking green fees and handing out cart keys. No food, no service and course is in sketchy shape. Is this true? If so, what else would you guys recommend? Turtle Bay is a little far but not out of the question except my buddy is cheap. I would appreciate a response in the next day or so.

Aloha and Mahalo.

luana hills has a small snack shop thing.

if you have your game in check, and want a challenge. go there

if you arent going for the golf. Dont bother.

Ewa Beach is/was in pretty good condition. Probably my top pick next to Turtle Bay Palmer course

Coral Creek & Kapolei arent bad either. The Greens arent always in the best shape though(ball marks, inconsistent speed)

I like Pearl Country Club, but, it isnt always in the best shape either, and they have tournaments often.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm game for Luana Hills but not if the course is not kept up. How are the greens? It might cost my buddy a few extra balls but might choose Koolau just for the scenery.

It's hard to tell, but does Ewa Beach have any elevation change? Similar to Ko'Olina?

Thanks again.

Ewa Beach is pretty flat and in my opinion one of the most boring courses. As many times as I've played there, I can't remember one hole from another. If you were headed out that way, I'd go North instead to Royal Kunia. It's hillier and at least from the tips you'll see 600 yard Par 5's.

Took the plunge and played Luana Hills today. Freakin' amazing course!!!! Might not have played my best, but there is no doubt that this was the most amazing place I have every played. Yeah, the amenities weren't there, but they had all you needed (snacks, drinks, good people) to play golf. Was it in top shape - no, but it was in good shape and the minor imperfections can be overlooked.

Damn glad I went, and if the wife lets me, I'll go again.
